hey guys I've been looking into getting remote start for a while now and am not sure what to get. I have heard that viper and python are both pretty good brands but I don't know what you guys know about any others. I also am not sure if the security features are worth the extra money. Im on a very tight budget. I do have audio equipment in my car and it is kept outside at night but I live in a fairly safe neighborhood. Is the stock alarm good enough? I know that two way remotes would be pretty convenient but not really needed. I do want probably 4 aux channels. one to pop the trunk one to turn on radio and two for rolling windows up and rolling windows down. Id appreciate any info you guys could give me. From what ive noticed is python and viper are kind of pricier so im not sure if theyre worth it? or if theyre overpriced and theyres cheaper alternatives that are better THANKS!

Viper, Python and Clifford are all the same companies owned by DEI hint the same features and same standard designs on most of there products. All you'll be paying is for a better looking remote and or color so any of those brands will do. For around $200 or so you can get a remote start w/ alarm that's the route I would take. You don't need some of the features like glass break etc that's purely optional. Check out the viper 5901 or 5701 I believe or python or Clifford and find something you like. Good luck.

Allow me to play devil's advocate. If your car develops a no start, undefined battery draw or other problem, your tech is gonna want to rip out the aftermarket alarm/remote start before he tries any other troubleshooting., unless you know one with a lot of experience dealing with them.

My experience is that you will not find a mechanic like that at a dealer.

    Python 533
    Viper 5704
to me they both seem to have the same features but the Viper is twice as expensive on amazon... could any of you tell me what the difference between the two is?

Python and viper are both made by directed electronics. Generally vipers are more expensive because of the name, sometimes have a nicer remote then of a model with the same brain.

    It's like GMC vs Chevy.

Your paying more for a GMC for its fancy chrome etc buy in reality both ate the same.

Python is fine, viper just seems to have better looking remotes. Decide if you think the better remote is worth the price difference.

    What do you drive?

I installed a Viper 5901/5701 (black and white remote) on my Regal. It wasn't bad, but I have vats and ignition bypass was easy. Plus I solder all my wires. All.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

All the wires you will need is at the BCM in the left side of the dash. Every wire for a remote start, alarm or combo is there. With the exception of tach if you decide to hook it up over using voltage sense.

Can u trace wires and splice and wire them correctly? If so then yea. If not then leave it to the professionals. If you have to ask if its simple your probably better off paying someone to do it right.

As long as you know how to follow a wiring diagram and match certain color wires to the proper colored wires lol. It's not that bad as long as you have some electrical knowledge.
