Does anyone know what the output of the stock HU is? Mine is the Delco AM/FM/CD with 7 band EQ.

I want to replace the rear 6x9 speakers as one of them is shot, I'll eventually replace the door mounted fronts as well. Any of the decent replacement speakers are rated for 35-100 watts continuous and so I'm wondering if the stock head unit will be able to power them at all. I realize that I'll need an amp to get the most out of them, but can I get by for a while before adding an amp to the system? I'd like to upgrade modestly over time, with a plan, but no subs or ear shredding volume is in the cards for me.

I've been partial to Polk over the years and leaning towards the DXi or DB lines.

Stock head unit will power pretty much any aftermarket speakers just fine.

It will power them fine, but for the best quality an amp will be required of course.

    Thanks maverickdog8 !

I'm not expecting a whole lot until I add an amp. In the past I've never had to deal with underpowered speakers like this but I need to do this one step at a time.

Ive been running Kenwood 5way 6x9s in the rear for over a year now. They are way underpowered and still work/sound great in my opinion. An amp would be ideal but at the time I didnt have the money for it. Good luck with yours!

    ^ Thanks!
This is encouraging news because the amp will probably have to wait a while.
