Power Drop Bonanza

Needed a power drop to add some L.E.D.s, a C.B. radio, and pke system, the power drop behind the glove box was not there. Looking for another place to tap I searched behind the DIC ( I had converted from analog to digital), using a meter I found two constant hot leads and eight switched power leads each one reading 12 volts or close enough (12.19 or 11.84) awesome source to tap from now all the wires are too short to reach down to the floor BUT extending them is easy what I am going to do is extend all of them, use the ones I need then cap the remainder and tuck them up out of sight but within easy reach in case I ever need or want to add anything else, in theory I should not even have to add a fuse because the harness should be connected to a fuse somewhere. Just though I would share this with you guys hope its helpful

Honestly, for all that, I'd just run a some new wires. A few feet of 4ga. (Probably overkill, I know leds hardly draw any power) is good and cheap. I'd fuse it too, but that's just from seeing a few hefty investments burnt to a crisp for skipping a cheap ass part.

However, your initial idea seems fine. For the record, i'd most likely use a fused distribution block in addition to the stock fuse. Then again, I tend to over-do things in the wiring department.

Only issue I would think could come from what you are doing is... it doesn't sounds like you know which circuit you are tapping into. Without knowing you can cause other issues and potentially overload circuits.

Here's the kind of thing that "can" happen when things get overloaded.

I would suggest testing with a multimeter to find out which circuit it is.

Billthats exactly why I posted this I was hopeing you or drunkie would chime in before I set the world on fire LOL what about fatboys idea of a fuse block but if it matters I am only running an led brake and gas pedal and about 20 leds under the dash

Absolutely not necessary just for led lights. CB, I'd run new wire... but those leds can be run without issue.

I ran mine to the switched power and ground wires in the stereo harness... two strips of leds in each footwell. Worked fine with no issues. Only ran a dedicated supply later because.... well.... fatboy likes overkill lol.
