Going to be building an enclosure for the 15" fi bl fully loaded that has been sitting in garage for the past couple weeks. Going into the 97 gtp. Aiming for 5 cubes net with aero ports. Probably tuned around 32hz. Going to be feeding it 2200 watts. Will be sliding it in from the front (back seats are removed). Dimensions to work with based on the opening that I will be sliding it in from is 13" height, 31" width, and 38" depth. Sub will be facing up firing through the rear deck (rear speakers are removed), just debating on where to put the port? I'm thinking either on the side as far back from the cabin as possible, firing up through the deck lid, or firing forward. Wondering what the pros and cons would be of each option.

    option 1: port side

    option 2: port up

    option 3: port forward

This is going in the daily driver, not for comps or anything.

previous setup was sub and port firing forward, and it was much better with the rear seat removed. What I'm thinking now though, since the sub will be firing up through the deck, is I could have the port positioned so it would fire into the ski pass for when I put the rear seat back in.

you said your width is 31" how much space will that leave between the box and your fender wells? and what size...how many...aero ports are you using?

generally speaking you will get better response in the lower frequencies if you have something solid for the port to load on, i.e. the back of the trunk or the fender well. if you fire the port directly into the cabin you will still get decent response but not as good. Or you can tune lower and fire forward.

Also what type of music to plan to play and from what type of media?

Up firing into the rear deck will load off the rear window. if i do side port i'll make the box less wide. 31 is just how wide it can be based on the opening i'll be sliding the box in from. i'll be tuning the box around 32hz. Using 6" ports or an 8"

oh yeah if you are talking about actually firing through the rear deck onto the windshield i say go that route. a lot of people say that but just point the port toward the rear deck, if you are literally coming through the rear deck that should sound pretty sick. and if you are so inclined....will also make for some sweet vids of the rear windshield flexing.

I talked to a few spl guys who have done builds in grand prixs and they said this will work well. I had a bit of a mind fart when i put "port up" as an option, since i'm using aero ports and my box will only be 12" high, that obviously won't work. so it was either back, forward, or side. I chose side, but it will be at the very back of the box, and the sub will be directly under the deck lid holes.

Yeah that should perform well. I have mine currently set up for port and subs toward the cabin but i have my trunk completely sealed off from the cabin and my box has 2 ports, i can close one off to switch from spl tuned to daily.

I have sub up port back in my impala and it kills the lows. As long as you leave enough room on the side it should be good. Have you braced the rear deck? Sub up is gonna rattle the deck like a mofo. I'd deaden on top and put mdf on the bottom, with holes for the air to pass thru. Or don't put holes and get some 6th order action going
