Ive always felt like Jl stuff was a lot of $$$$ just for the name. Ive never been really impressed by their stuff when I've heard it in person. Personally I love my RE. I have a single SX 12 on 900 wrms in 2.75cu ported to 32hz and it straight up rocks. The leads tore out of the coil after 3 years though. Now it has a custom recone on the sx motor and basket with sewn double leads and all the goodies. If I was to start fresh with nothing I would pick up a monster motor on the car audio forums, a basket that worked with it in whatever size I decided on, then send it out and have it built with the really good soft parts like mine has now. Total cost would be under $350.

I picked up a 12" Soundstream Tarantula T5, just powered by a small MTX Monoblock for now for the blazer, got it for dirt cheap, and it out pounds my buddy's pair of 15" DB Drive's with a MBQuart Discus 1500.1, and it hits harder, has better overall range. I was gonna amp the crap out of it and see what it would do, but now that the baby's almost here, I am most likely gonna have to take it out and throw it in the GP.

you ever use a multi meter? by ear doesnt mean anything man. just cause you think its good dont mean anything. IF you take a volt me to set you can set your amp to reach its potentiol and still be within reason of clipping

well tune and setting gains are 2 different things, set gains properly will ensure your subs dont puff out smoke, tuneing is all done by ear unless you have a meade calibrator

I would agree. I used to run JL audio 10's in my car. I paid $$$ for them and built boxes specific to their specs. When the foam surround came off (not the first time JL's had done this to me) I decided I was done with them. I bought some Image Dynamics 10's to replace them. They were the basic Image Dynamic's 10's, not the high $$$ bad boy. the Image Dynamics subs out performed the JL's in every way and have never given me one bit of trouble.
