I recently purchased and installed a new pioneer head unit in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. I was informed by Crutchfield.com (where I purchased the deck and all installation parts from) that I would need a special adapter or harness to go with it which I also purchased and installed. The harness that I was informed to purchased was the CRUX SOCGM-17 06-Up GM Class II DataBus Intrfc w/Chime. I drove the car to work the next morning for the first time since the install and experienced the issues with the gauges. The gauges worked for about the first 10 miles then went off and then would come back on after a few seconds or sometimes several minutes. The speedometer is the only thing that continued to work and never went out.. The fuel gauge, tachometer, and temperature gauges would all stop working at the same time and the traction control symbol and light would also come on. The car seems to be running perfectly, other than the gauges, and the Pioneer head unit is functioning without any issues as well. I placed a call to the Crutchfield Tech Support department and the rep suggested to unhook the harness and then reconnect it and if that didn't work to unhook the orange illumination cable. All of my connections seem to be solid and the orange illumination wire was never connected to anything. After unhooking the harness and checking my connections I have the same exact issue. I have never worked with these special harnesses required for GM vehicles before and I am not sure if perhaps I got a dud. The harness comes with the door chime box which seems to chime and work when it is supposed to, however the sound is very very faint. I do not know how loud the CRUX harness is supposed to sounds so any info on that would also be great. I plan on placing another call in to the Crutchfield tech support department later this afternoon to see what they have to say.
Thanks in advance for any and all help on this.
Trent.
