I had a python 591 installed about 2 years ago. I did a few things to get it more how I would like it. Set it for auto rearming after 30sec etc. now I have been having problems with my rear defrost won't stay on very long and I think it's because they tapped into that to power the alarm. Is there a power drop in an 05 Grand Prix SE or how would you suggest wiring it for power? I would also like to use the defrost function on the remote when I start it in the winter. Last question is mounting the brain. It is currently Velcro or sticky taped to another box under the steering column on the left right by the access panel if you have the door open. I have turned up the sensitivity all the way but it still takes some serious pounding to even set off the shock sensor let alone the alarm.

The rear defroster will shut off sooner. The hotter the rear grid gets the resistance changes and solid state logic in the hvac unit shuts it off.

I don't see how they could have grabbed power at the hvac Controller to power the alarm and since I've never done it on any 04+ gp I'm sure they didn't either, Maybe hooked it up for a trigger to turn on the defroster but that's it. The BCM has several 12v orange power wires that's suitable for powering an alarm.

Don't use velcro it reduces vibrations. Zip tie it to the steering column for best results.

I'm not sure either and I haven't pulled it apart enough to check, but there is a line running from there to back behind the HVAC controls and ever since it was installed the defrost only stays on for 10 seconds which sucks in the winter.

Ill have to pull it off and zip tie it somewhere better. You mentioned the steering column but what about the aluminum bracket that right inside the access panel from the drivers door?

Lastly going back to the defrost I want to hook it up so I can activate it remotely when I remote start my car in the winter

Anything metal and solid will work. That bracket is fine.

The wire going to you hvac.. If that is where it's going is probably attached to your rear defroster circuit thus why it doesn't work.

I've hooked into the heated seat wire and rear defroster on my last prix at the hvac but while the remote start was engaged the buttons were disabled until a restart because the bcm sensed a short to ground. It took some relays and such but not worth it imo (labor time vs just pushing the button myself)

If you want rear defroster the remote start can be programmed to have a latched output for 10min and that can be used to trigger a relay that's output is connected to the defroster grid.
