I'm wanting to install an AUX input for use with my phone or ipod into my car with the stock radio. I was wondering if anyone has done this yet and if so what did you use. Ive googled and found a couple ways but they just dont look 100% promising and would like some personal experience from people

I've looked at that thread but I use my XM radio and don't want to mess with it. I'm trying to see if anyone has an adapter they've actually used

uhm unless you want to spend upwards couple hundred, cant really help you. one person did say they tapped in to the xm and use channel 0 for the aux input, kills the xm signal and allows use of the cord.

Gm12-aux12 it looks like this part should work fine in my car and its not to expensive...has anyone used it or know how it works...its not hard to install but I can't figure out how its supposed to work. Or should I just buy an DMV modulator that hard wires in

If you have single CD there is a module you can use but it's a hundred bucks.

If you have a cd6 monsoon radio NO adapter will work. I ordered several different versions at work returned them all.

Tapping into the xm signal is the most cost effective and does not harm the receiver. Turning it to 0 is the hassle free way while the normal xm channels still work fine if you pay for the service.

    Guy.... ^
When i had my stock monsoon, i had aux with an adapter.
I also had a 6 CD changer and XM... i believe you only need one of these for my adapter to work.
    Which is for sale BTW.

Look up FM transponders on Amazon. I bought a cheapo for like $30 and its been great for the last couple of years. It hooks online with the antenna and simulates an FM signal, it should have a couple of different channels to simulate, mines like 88.9 I think, not used anywhere in this area.

FM transmitters are awful. The quality is ballocks.

Either get an aftermarket deck, or listen to CDs.

That said, AUX is ALSO awful quality in comparison to direct USB or CD.
You'll come to realize this when you start listening with higher quality speakers.

Transmitters are horrible, I said TRANSPONDER.

The quality is fine with me, sure its not amazing, but I'm more than happy with it. With all the music I listen to I've hot a **** ton of CDs and was tired of having a huge book in my car.

Yeah exactly you only need 1 you can't use an adapter with both. I've tried them on several different prIxs.

The grand prix with a single CD the adapters make the head unit think it has a CD changer. The monsoon has a CD6 so it can't have an external as well... the aux in will work with any car equipped with xm.

If there is something out that works with the cd6 indash setup it came out after I tried PAC and Axxels modules.

    Aux input is digital.
-It will only sound as good as the music was recorded/copied too. Ex 128kbps, 256, etc.
    - the quality of rcas and aux jack wires you use.
-A third factor is how much of an output your ipod or phone has. I have an SIII and it has a very powerful headphone jack so I experience no issues at all. Sounds great.

    Fm blows. fyi lol

It doesn't effect the function of your xm at all. If you plug your phone in the xm receiver will detect the audio and automatically shut off the xm audio. If you pause the audio without the channel being selected to 0 xm audio will resume on whatever channel it was you had selected..

Obviously this is only audio and it will not show artist name etc on the radio.

i just wanted to add this to this thread. I found a 30 dollar adapter that is alot simpler and cheaper than any option that i have found on here. Its made by pac audio and its model number is AAI-GM112 and it took me 15 minutes to install. It plugs into the 12 pin connector on the back of the factory radio and has an on and off switch. when switched on it turns the xm off and plays the axillary input. It has no engine noise through the speakers at all

I recently purchased the aai gm12 and my boyfriend installed it. I have the 6cd changer with a cd/aux button but no xm. So when I press the cd/aux button it just plays the cd. What can I do? I saw on an rx8 forum that possibly the audio from the adapter can be picked up if I play a blank wav file, this is me trying to be optimistic. Anyone know how to get into a programming mode on the factory stuff to try and activate the aux option? Ugh! Help!
