Re: Sub help.
Just some more input to help you out - a friend of mine lost his alternator pushing about 900w from a Kenwood KAC-9105d. I can't say it was directly from the strain of the amplifier, but he had no problems prior. I'm running the same amp and have had no problems yet, let's hope it stays that way. My best advice is to google 'Big 3 upgrade' and run 1/0 under your hood. That will allow 100% of your alternator/battery's output to go to your car, providing less strain on both your vehicle's electrical system and your amplifier.

I would just go with a single 10 or 12 on 500-1000 watts. You don't need to spend a ton of money. There are tons of brands that will sound awesome and still be cheap and not require much power. I've played with audio for years and am running 2 18s walled off on 7400 watts in my 2002 prix.
As mentioned the ssa line, sundown, incriminator audio, even the alpine type r will get decently loud on 500-1000 watts and sound good in a sealed box and not break the bank.
If you are looking for a good cheap amp that actually does rated power looking into the Audiopipe amps(they aren't the cleanest power, but offer a super small footprint along with rated power without a huge current draw).
