I have a 2000 gt I just got. My question is this. In the morning or when it is cool out, I have no rear speakers. But when i leave work and the car has sat in the sun they work?? One of my co-workers has the same problem with his car. I do have an amp to put in, but would rather leave it stock for now. Any ideas.

I think the issue is the speakers not the power to them, I wonder if they are actually "blown" and the heat expands them some and frees them up (I haven't seen that before personally so I am guessing)

They sound fine when they work. Good bass and everything. It just seems odd that mine and the co-workers have the same prob. Thanks for the idea though. It is something that I can check into. I have a good in at a local salvage yard. I can grab another stock speaker and check it out.

this might be related. *shrugs* this is what happened to me.
in the morning, After a nice cold night, when u start up ur car, they didnt output as much. The bass isn't as loud, but it's still there, and when it starts warming up, the bass starts picking up.
Maybe ur speakers are just wearing out and they're getting old? *shrugs* i know just about as much as u 91z

I too have a 00' gt and I am also having problems with my rear speakers. When I bought the car it had a tape deck in it which I replaced with a factory CD. But I still have no sound from the rear speakers. I checked the connection to the head unit and the speakers from the trunk and everything seems fine. I was wondering if it may be a short it the wiring or just the speakers?????

I had this problem too with the exact same symptoms. Only plays when its hot.

Grand prix's are notorious for wiring problems.

Never figured it out. I even bought a new 7eq CD Player. Still didn't fix it. I just ended up upgrading the whole audio system in the car by running all the speakers to an amp.

I finally had time to mess with it and archemedes is right on the money. I checked to see if I had power cold and hot. Then when they were cold I hooked up a little 3 1/2 I had sitting around. Worked just fine. Hard to beleave that a delco speaker would do that. They must make them cheaper than they used to. Thanks to all that gave any info. It was a great help.

Well i be darned. I spent over 2k putting a new stereo in my car after the new head unit didn't fix it. O well it now sounds much better than stock anyways.

Yea, it probably had a broke voice coil, just enough for it not to work when it was cold, but when it got hot, the copper is soft enough to expand and make the connection. When it got cold again it would retract again. Good call ARCH.

Form what i understand that is semi normal... I f you think about it allot the com components of the speaker can get stiff in cold environments. Once the interior of the car warms and or the speaker has been playing a little to worm up it will sound better... ive never really noticed this but friends of mine have mentioned this with 12 inch subs.

Weird. I recently bought a used '00 SE with stock HU and speakers. Both rears are dead. I haven't begun to troubleshoot the problem yet, but had ruled out speaker failure simply because they're both dead. From what I can tell they're dead no matter the temperature.

Can anyone tell me if this car has a separate factory amp? It's the non-Bose.

easy way to test the speakers (yes both can go bad especially if the previous owner liked distortion) is use a battery on the line, they should make a pop noise (use a small one even a 9 volt won't hurt them)

I'll do that. I used the battery trick recently while re-foaming all the drivers in my Bose 901's to make sure I got them wired back in correct phase. Thanks!

I too have two dead rear speakers in my 99 GTX. I thought it might be something in the HU but hooked up another speaker to the rear connection and it worked. Good to know im not the only one with this problem.
