so i have a base grand prix with the base sound system not the monsoon. i recently upgraded my head unit to a nice pioneer unit aswell as have two 12's in the trunk. one of my good friends dads owns a junk yard so if there is a grand prix with the monsoon speakers i could get them real cheap if not even free, would it be worth it to upgrade my door and rear speakers from the base to the monsoon ones, especially if i can get em free?

also how easy would the instalation be? if im taking them out of a gp and puttin em in another gp it should just be un plug from the one and plug em in the other right??

if you have the base i believe you need the whole harness. so plug n play is prolly out the question. why would you do that anyway? jsut get a nice four channel and some componets and go to town.

dont really want to spend the money to buy new speakers and an amp at the moment, just spent a lot on the head unit and subs. also i dont know what size speakers are in the older models but could i use even the bose ones out of them?

No, the harnesses are different. Even if they were the same, I believe the monsoon speakers run at 2 ohm and not a lot of head units can handle that.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

The bose system comes with a factory amp that youll need to wire up to get decent sound (along with the reasons stated above). Im not a system guru, just letting you know there are other components to the sytem that you may need to consider. I highly suggest aftermarket, its new and will most likely sound much better than junkyard audio!!

The Monsoon doesn't even sound as good as my coaxial Infinity Kappa's, save some money for real aftermarket speakers and an amplifier, you'd be disgracing the clean output of your HU by sending the signal to the Monsoon, just so it can make it sound crappy.

Really though, listen to a stock system and then a Monsoon. There's definitely an improvement. Then listen to the Monsoon followed by a real system, even bigger improvement.

You would need the monsoon amp as well. Then new door panels for the tweeters as I don't think the base model has tweeters?

Im not sure if the wiring harness is there in a base car. You'd be better of going aftermarket

Midnightblue, did you install the front speakers yourself? and if so how did you do it?

2dee11 to answer your question no it would not be worth it at all to upgrade your speakers to Monsoon for a few reasons
    1. As previously stated your new headunit puts out a higher quality signal then the monsoon amp will reproduce; you would just be making it dirty again
    2. You would need to a new wiring harness from your headunit because there are two different ones. One for basemodel systems and one for Bose, Monsoon, etc
    3. If you have a basemodel GP then you don't have the center channel cut out in your dashboard.

My advice is (just like everyone elses) save up some money and get a 4channel amp and some aftermarket speakers.....you will be doing justice to those two beast that you have in the trunk. Believe me its cheaper than you think to get better sound than that crappy Monsoon

yeah there ate tweeters in the base. so what kind of cheap amp and speakers do you guys suggest? cheap but get the job done, would be kinda cool to get pioneer ones because my subs and head unit are both pioneer although my amp is the hifonics Brutus series
