Since your car is a 2004 onstar won't work anyway, the changed from analog to digital in 2005. You will lose the date on the DIC, there's no way around it unless you piggyback the stock deck in like you used to have to do in the grand am's. You will want a gmos-04 for the install to retain the warning/door chimes. As far as xm is concerned you'll need to use the xm antenna that comes with your deck as the stock one can't be used. Hope that answers your questions!
I got the expensive wiring kit with the chime box. IMO it was worth the money. It is all chimes. Lights, doors, etc. And I went with the JVC unit. couldnt be happier.
If you get the gmos-04 then you'll retain whatever onstar capability you have left. The aftermarket radio will be a step up on the stock deck in all aspects and it won't cause any problems with the hud, etc. You'd still get warning lights but i would think that you want to retain as much of the stock features as possible. If you're gonna do it then do it right the first time that way you don't waste money re-installing it. Especially if you're paying someone else to do it.
You will also need an adapter to retain your steering wheel controls.
Trust me bud you overspent on that one. GMOS-04 is all you need that is what I use on my 04.
i belive mine is the AVH-P3200BT No navigation, works fantastic and u can customize ur colors and all that goodies, its really loud and sounds great and its around 300 on amazon, so id recommend it and i think someone else has this same radio on here to and also loves it, only problem is that aftermarket radios decrease the bass sound a little bit, work better with subs and stuff like that, but if u tune it right in the settings it will sound amazing
