I stopped to get a sandwich earlier, and when I came back out and started the car, the panic alarm went off. I figured I must have hit the button on the key fob, so I pressed it again and turned it off. Five seconds later it came back on. So I turn the car off and turn it back on... alarm comes on again. I pop the hood and open my door.. alarm on. Close the door... alarm on. I unplug the battery for a few minutes, plug it back in... alarm comes on instantly. The car still runs and drives so I leave while holding the fob to turn off the alarm every 15-20 seconds while driving. After about 5 miles of that, I have an epiphany... unplug the horn fuse. That gets the job done to get me home without drawing the attention/scaring everyone I pass. I could still hear clicking under the dash for the switch or something related to that alarm.

Anyone have any ideas why this thing is going nuts?

It just occured to me that it may just be that the key fob is broken. I have a spare so I'll try that later.

I should also mention, on my way to work this morning the car started running really rough about 1 mile from work and the service engine light was blinking. Turns out one of the rear plug wires I changed recently had popped off. I can't see how it would be related, but I don't know. Once I got the wire back in place, the car ran fine and acted normal from there to the sandwich shop.

It was a BLT. The bacon tasted funny though.

Apparently I've fixed it, at least temporarily. I'm not quite sure what did it though. I tried taking out the fuse for the theft deterrent system, but it didn't seem to help. It just disabled my key fob and whatever else was running through that fuse. When I opened the door after pulling it, I could still hear the clicking under the dash. Then I noticed the door lock/unlock button wasn't working so I fiddled with that and the buttons on the fob and eventually they were all working. Then I started the car and everything was normal.

    ?!??!?!?!??

I'm not 100% sure but disableing the security system (if you need to do so in the future) may prevent the car from running. The car will crank but the fuel pump will be disabled. Might be able to get around this by installing a FP relay switch.

If this is wrong I'm sure someone else will chime in.
