Hey guys so I recently bought a 2004 Pontiac grand prix gtp and the stereo sounds good in the car but it should be louder. My head unit which is stock maxes out on the volume. I just feel like the volume should go so much louder.. I have the monsoon system along with the amp in the trunk. Any suggestions? is the amp blown? Head unit?

From here in mass it sounds pretty quiet, think you should buy a new car.

They just aren't that loud(or clean) if you are looking for booty bumpin trunk thumpin level. They distort quickly.

Alright, I was just told that they had a really good stereo system. I just think that I should be able to turn up the volume to the point where its distorted. So pretty much what im thinking is that I should just start off with a aftermarket head unit.

What i was saying is your question is irrelevant. How are we going to have any idea of what your car sounds like from you posting on here? My stock monsoon system sounded good. I was bumping 2 10" with it at 800 rms and it kept up decent. Maby there is something wrong with yours? idk without hearing it

Well heres my question for you. Did you ever have to turn your volume all the way up for it to be loud enough for you? I just feel like I should always have a option to go louder. whether its gonna distort my speakers or not.

I think what he is saying is that he can crank the volume up all the way to max and it is not very loud, like I know in mine it will start to distort and sound crappy way before it got to the max volume even with the stock head unit.

There is a good possibility the previous owner could have done some damage to the sound system in the car. I would check to see if the amp is in even on.

How do you check the amp? I think he might have damaged it. For **** sakes, he had 22" rims on it and subs.. Did not take any care of the care what so ever.

my stock radio was like this too, it needed new speakers, like bad, the foam from the cones to the speaker frame were gone on the door speakers, and only one rear worked.

being your a moonson there are a few issues with changing speakers, they need to be the right kind or they dont work right at all. theres a quite a few threads that cover the speaker swap.

See but all my speakers work. Its just the fact that my head unit wont let me raise the volume enough so there loud/maxed out. Im thinking either my amp or my head unit is messed up.

I think if the amp had a issue you wouldn't be getting any sound. I think you just need to replace your speakers and/or HU and take advantage of better sound quality.
