Thread: best Tweeter mounting locations?

Ok guys i just picked up a cheap '99 Grand Prix GT(55k miles) and i'm making it into my DD so i don't have to drive my damn truck all the time at $4+ per gallon. Anyway i picked up a nice Alpine HU with SiriusXM tuner, Alpine 300watt(600watt peak) amp, Kenwood 5.25 Components front, 6x9 Kicker 3 ways in the rear. Anyway i'm wondering where the best location for the tweeters would be. I would like to do them in place of the stock ones but i hear there isn't much mounting depth as well as some curve to the panel there. Is the panel housing the tweeter attached to the door panel itself? Also The tweeter going in is a 1" and i'm debating between the stock placement or on the A-pillar but looking for feedback on all this. thanks guys ~Cole~

More than enough for any tweeter, unless its a bullet tweeter. Typically you want the tweet as close to the mid as you can get, yet further away from your ear than the mid (thats why our factory placement sucks balls). The tweet in the mirror cover, was an awful decision from the factory. Our cars basically need a three way system. I would go with the A pillar and aim it so the sound bounces off the windshield to the passenger and vica versa. This will slow down the time the high frequencies reach your ear, and allow the mids to catch up.

Wouldn't the model of tweeter play a large part in this? Are some more suited to being on-axis than others, and vice versa?

Its really more of a listener preference. Any tweeter I've ever placed on axis and listened to, it felt like I was staring down the barrel of a gun. My ears are more sensitive to high frequencies, so when they're facing me, its too bright. So Ive always mounted mine off axis.
