Ok, I'm switchin' up all the audio on my car and want to hear some opinions and recommendations. I just want a build with high quality sound and a little bass when I want it. Here is what I've got picked out so far:

Morel Maximo 5.25" Component Set Amazon.com: Morel Maximo 5.25-Inch Component Speaker System: Car Electronics

Morel Maximo 6x9" Set Amazon.com: Morel Maximo 69C 6x9-Inch Coaxial Speakers: Car Electronics

Kenwood KDC-X996 HU Kenwood KDC-X996 Bluetooth/Pandora/HD/Sirius XM CD Receiver | Pacific Stereo

Powerbass XAX-4160FD Amp eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Let me know what you think about this and if you have any suggestions. Also will I need to buy any wiring? Should I have this stuff professionally installed? Thanks.

If you're asking questions like that, yes, you need a pro install.

Also. Forgot 6x9s, they don't do anything at all. Just drop in some 8" subwoofers, then you got your bass in the back and your mids and highs up front.

I wasn't really planning on subs. Is there anything I can do about the 6x9's?

You should plan on subs, you will never want to go back to a car without subs once you have heard one with them. Im sure you can find a fairly cheap sub(s) on your local classifieds. I got 2 10's with a 400 watt amp for 120$ and thats more bass then id ever want.

Rear speakers are just awful that's all. They don't change/add anything significant, especially once you have nice front mids and highs. And that's why I'm saying 8 inch subs. You widen the holes where the 6x9s were, drop in some 8 inch subs, you have your bass. You'll never truly have "a little bass" with just coax speakers. With that, run a stereo 2/4 channel amp for the front speakers and a mono d-class amp for the rears 8" subs. With a d class you'll be able to just drop it underneath the rear seat, and if you want to get fancy, you can drop the stereo amp under the center console. Totally hidden, totally upgraded sound.

I noticed a huge difference going from stock 6x9s to my JL's.

IMO, the GP is too big to run a "front stage" unless you never have passengars.

You'll notice more of a differnce just hooking up a new HU. But you will notice a bit clearer sound and maybe a bit more bass just by putting the 6x9's in.

People run 8"s in the rear deck all the time. That's the substitute for actually dropping a sub box in. It's going to give you an honest bit of bass that 6x9s wont give you. The coax in the front are already going to be giving you your mids and highs. If I was doing a build like this, that's how I'd do it. But i'm not. Instead I have 4 12"s and simply unplugged my rear speakers. Just to tickle my fancy, while they were still plugged in, I faded the music all the way to the front, heard almost no change. Faded all the way to the back, tons of change.

Like cameron said up there a "bit" as in, not enough to be worth it. You'll get REAL bass by running 8s, and REAL everything by running 8s combined with some quality mids and highs.

What I was thinking is get what I have listed above, and maybe get a 10" sub or similar, eventually.

Sean do you know anything about modifying the stock front brackets to fit 6.5" speakers? Cuz the morels have the same set in 6.5" as well.

Yeah. Just cut it up, and fab up your own bracket if needed.

Just pick a good open-air sub.

The 8's will add more rattle but that's only because they'll play lower. DLS makes some IB 8's that are decent. Otherwise, just grab some Type R 8's and give them .5 cubic feet
    11 is louder than 10!

So I should go with 8's instead?

He's talking about a box. A box that, once the subs are mounted, still have .5 cu^3 of volume inside.

So if i want 8" in the rear, i still need a box? If so, then I'm going with the 6x9's and will get probably like a single sub later.

No. You don't get it. At all.
He said if you want to put them in the rear deck, aka, infinitely baffled setup, get these:
DLS OA8 (OA-8) 8" Single 8 ohm Performance OA Car Subwoofer

Otherwise, get Type R's and put them in a box.

Honestly, if you dont get any subs at ALL don't waste your money on 6x9s....

Why is everything ripping into 6x9s. How do none of you notice a huge difference with them? If you want a little bass get a small sub and small amp. Replacing all the stock speakers will make a ton of difference even if you only run them off the head unit but for even better sound quality get a 4 channel amp for them
