Find a nice used 2 channel amp for the highs. If you do it right, you can have a really nice setup for ~$700. Check out DIYMA.

I get what everyone is saying about the subs, however I think it also depends on the condition of your stock 6x9s. Mine were **** when I replaced them with Kenwoods, so I noticed a big difference (not saying that I actually was getting sub tones though.) If your's are in good condition then you probably won't notice much of a difference between the two after installing the new head unit. By the way, I have the kdc-bt945u, and I love it! it is practically the same head unit, just a bit older. But I have to say, I didnt think I wanted a sub when I upgraded all of my components, and I am definitely wanting one now... That will be a project for a different day. Thinking of fabbing a fiberglass box to mold into the far front of the trunk so you could actually open up the pass through and see the sub.

I would go to stevemeadedesigns.com, diyma.com, caco.com, or caraudio.com. All four boards have good classified sections with members that have great reputations as sellers. My first advice would be to look for used good quality amps, you can save an ass load of money there. Secondly, do your due diligence looking up these products and seeing what you are really looking for in your stereo system. Thirdly, I have found a tremendous amount of install help on stevemeadedesigns.com. There are some dicks on there, like all message boards, but there are many intelligent SQ and SPL guys who are always willing to answer questions.

The biggest piece of advice though is.....Do it right the first time.

Can I get some info on good HU's for my setup? I like the Kenwood x996 but $300 is pricey.. suggestions?

And I think because of the rattling I will go with a 10" in the trunk and still get the 6x9 speakers.

Also will that baffle still fit in the door rynoman?

OK I think I'm going with the Kenwood x896. It has the exact same specifications as the x996 just it looks different and even has an aux in the front which the other doesnt.

    It is $260.

I anyone has anything against me getting this hu let me know!!

300 is a good mid level HU price. You go less you lose features and quality. Why are you sold on the Kenwood? I mean I too have rocked Kenwood's Excellon series and I loved mine while it worked. I really like my Clarion touch screen but the cd player has stopped taking cds after 5+ years. I'm looking to upgrade that sometime when i find a good deal. Have you thought about buying a used deck ? There's always people upgrading and you might find a really nice gently used deck on one of those audio forums if your patient.

    Here's a good deal on a 4channel amp.
    http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/boa...gns-amplifier/

Hell i'm half tempted to buy that amp myself!

Another good deal on quality equipment.

There is a guy on stevemeadedesigns.com that is selling a pioneer headunit, 4200 I think for $90, but it needs to be sent out to be fixed. Worth a shot if you're willing.

Last thing I'm worried about at this point is the amp. THe one in the original post seems to be the exact right thing for my set up. I'm the type of person that likes to buy things new.

I don't have enough money for everything right now so I'm buying the HU first, front components next, then amp, and then 6x9's, then sub and amp.

6x9s.... no no no no no. Just get rid of them all together. Honestly. Take them out, leave the grille on for aesthetics. You'll save money. Honestly. You're doing a daily build, even in a comp build you probably won't want 6x9s...

waste of time. go ahead, they might sound better, but you'd have to be sitting in the backseat with your head lodged between the rear deck and window to enjoy the sound of a 6x9 since they still don't do ****.

Sound is directional, except for bass. Just keep that in mind. Speaker pointing to the window WHILE the car is moving aren't going to make much sound. Drive your car and toss a ball up and see how far back it goes. That's what your mid/high sound waves are doing. So if they start behind you... where do you think they're going?

the sound waves are reflecting off of the rear window. just because they start behind you doesnt mean they cant end up in the front.

Sound travels much, much faster than a grand prix. I can hear my 6x9s just fine...I actually have my fade towards the front because my 6x9s were overpowering the fronts.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

Sounds like we're starting to get into HAAS effect, phsycoacoustics, etc. Should we? Op?

So you're saying that if I fade my speakers to the rear and get on the highway going 60 I'll hear no sound? HAHA that's the most ridiculous **** ever posted. How can you equate acoustic energy to a ball?

Where did I say "they make no sound at all"?

Go fade your speakers to the back, then go fade them to the front. Tell me which is louder. Oh right, the fronts.

And if you say "cause they're closer" I'm just going to assume that your mother dropped you on your head and that you're a complete asshat. At least, more of an asshat than you're already proving to be.

Oh and put your glasses back on, since you're apparently a blind mother****er.

Why is that every single audio thread I've posted on eventually turns into this. I just simply don't understand why we all can't agree on something. Long story short is that while your front speakers will produce better sound to your ears, your 6x9s will still be benifical. That's it. No more argument. No more cursing. Let's just help the people on these forums, not get into pissing matches about specifics.
    Infinity all around.

Why are you guys complicating this more than it needs to be?

I just want a build with high quality sound and a little bass when I want it. Here is what I've got picked out so far:
To suggest subs in the rear deck is rather naive for a number of reasons.

    Primary, lack of enclosure.

This results in the vibration of the rear deck, trunk lid, and eventually the rear window.

The more important concern is your drivers will behave differently when the trunk is full compared to empty.

6x9's still suffer from the same, but to a lesser degree as they do not produce much content below 80 Hz at a useful SPL.

Take the anger and insults out of your posts.

    This is also misleading.

Distance is a primary factor in SPL.
