alright awesome. I think it's settled then. I just need to figure out what headunit I want to buy now and purchase the amp, amp kit, head unit, harness, antenna adapter, and hu faceplate all at once and be done. what would the appropriate power wire size be for the Brutus?
4GA. knukonceptz.com is a great place for wire. It's great wire and real cheap. I bought a 4GA kit from them and its fantastic.
MAKE SURE your power wire fuse is equal or larger in amperage than the combined total of all the fuses on your amp. so if you amp has two 60A fuses, you need at least 120A fuse on the power wire.
so since this has two 70a fuses I'll just get a kit with a 150w inline fuse?

I just read somewhere that it is safer to round down than up. is this true in my case? would it be better to get a 125a fuse?
Uhm where did you read that? You can find a 170A fuse. Your best bet is to MATCH. 125A will give you LESS power than your amp needs, starving it, going OVER 170A shouldnt hurt, but still allows more power than your amp will need.
TECHNICALLY you can go with a 125 because you're not going to be using all that power right now anyway, but if you upgraded subs, you'd want a matching/bigger fuse.
i think both of you should read this. amps have their own fuses protecting the amp. The fuse next to the battery is protecting the wire.

Why would you ever want your main fuse to be rated higher than your amp fuses? If you're blowing fuses in your amp, you got problems. I would much rather my main fuse blow before the amps.Quote:

I know there are a ton of sites that recommend adding your amp fuses and going up to 20A higher. But I wouldnt recommend it. Go with a fuse that is rated for your wire. 8awg = 50A, 4awg = 125A, 0/1awg = 325. If you're running a 4awg wire with a 125A fuse and your're blowing it because of the power you're running, you need a bigger wire.
Well and if you're running that much power you best have an upgraded alternator anyway. 105 amps @ 1200 RPM isn't gonna do you any good...

No, you'll be fine. Sean was saying if you were running enough power to max out a fuse on a 4awg wire, you'd want an alt upgrade. If you run that Brutus amp at 2ohm, you'll only be pulling about 65A through that wire. You're stock alt will be fine.
okay phew haha. with that brutus it says to use 4awg wire and it has two 70A fuses on the side. so i would need 140A fuse closest most kits sell are 150A but most kits dont sell 150A fuse with 4awg wire. so do you have a suggested kit? or would it be okay to get 2awg? i dont want to go over like $25 for a wire kit unless its a must. i just think its ridiculous to pay so much for an amp then spend so much on wires for it

You dont want to figure out what fuse to use by adding your amps fuses. You want to go by the rating of the size of wire you use. If you use too large of a fuse, your power line can burn up (taking your car with it) before it blows the fuse. Since you're using a 4awg wire, I'd stay between a 125A and 150A fuse. Seeing that amp is only gonna pull around 65A, you'd be fine with an 80A fuse. But most kits will come with a fuse and fuse holder. I would look for a kit the uses ANL type fuses. The AGU fuses (look like glass tubes) typically have crappy holders that get corroded and add resistance to your line. As for a kit, thats up to you. I spend the good money for good wires because its the backbone of your system.Quote:

fusing/fuses/ what each type of fuse looks like and which work best is all in that link i posted a few posts up. As far as wiring kits, i would suggest this one. I will probably be picking up that same brutus amp here in the near future as it is a great buy. Ill be using this wire kit with it.

900Watts/ 14Volts = 64.3Amps. I worked for a JL audio dealer and I've been partial to their wires ever since. Especially their RCA's. But knukonceptz have great reviews and they are pretty cheap.
