So my 2005 Grand Prix Base Trim has the stock Monsoon speakers and stock deck. But from my old car I have a Sony Xplode deck and Alpine SBS speakers; would I benefit from using them in my Grand Prix and get better sound? -or- is the stock stereo system better?

Xplode... No, toss that in the garbage.

The Alpine Speakers on the other hand should sound better than stock.

Did you old car sound better? you tell us which you should do, man.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

I wouldn't replace the headunit, due to the fact that sony xplod is not an upgrade and you will loose steering wheel controls and such (unless you buy all the adapters).

But, I would try replacing the speakers.

Xplodes were the sh!t at one time. I had one when they first came out and it was only one level below the top model. That thing was top quality and lasted 9 years.

When I got mine Walmart didn't carry anything like it. I got it at a quality stereo shop. It was before Sony went cheap. I probably bought it in 99 or 2000.

They definitely were not at Wally World at that time. It was about 01 or 02 when they started selling the lower tier models there. It was a $200 unit when I got it, not WalMart quality.

Yeah. I got it the first year it was available. After that, they went to crap. It sucked too because the unit was really nice. When you use one headunit for 9 years, and then have to buy a new one, its hard to get used to. LOL

My Alpine that I bought as a replacement is sitting in my closet now though. Took it out when I pulled my Stealth off the road.

From what I remember, there is only a few companies that have been top of the line for 9 years. Such as bose and JL audio.

Sony has never been top of the line, although the products they make usually work fine for everyday use.

Everyone can keep saying what they want, but mine wasn't one of the cheapass $70 WalMart versions that were out in the early 2000's. I had people like mine so much they went out and bought their own.

This subject went rather off topic didn't it? I do believe that there was a time when sony made quality products on all of its market ranges, head units are no exception. Many would argue however that Sony has never made a "top-of-the-line" model head-unit. To the point. Your newer xplode is certainly not an upgrade from the stock. If you have a monsoon system in the car the stock amp should run the alpines well enough. You may opt to get a new head unit though with multiple pre-amp outputs. I'm a fan of kenwood and pioneer head units myself.
