Keyless Remote

Can I program a remote from a Chevy Blazer to my car? They look almost identical. The only difference is the new one on the trunk button says Rear 2X and mine just shows an open trunk. If this can be done can someone lead me in the direction of how to do so?? Also, can I have a copy of my key made or is there a special chip in it?

Are the part numbers on the fobs the same?

The model numbers are different I just thought maybe they were compatible...oh well!

1994-1998 Key Fobs
Locate the black-and-white programming connector wire located in the right-hand side of the trunk. Pull back the trunk's lining to access it. On the end, you will find a terminal in a plastic connector. Place this against a bolt or the trunk latch. You will hear the locks cycle. Press any button on the remote, and listen for the locks to cycle again. Repeat this step for all remotes.

1998-2003 Key Fobs
Enter the car and close all doors. In the fuse panel, remove the "MALL PGM" fuse. Put your key into the ignition, and turn to "ACC." Turn the key on and off within a second. Open and close the driver's door and listen for the chime that indicates you are in programming mode. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons for 14 seconds, listening for the chime. Wait 14 seconds for the second chime. Repeat this step for all additional remotes, remove the key, replace the fuse, and exit the car. You will have programmed the remotes.

2004-2010 Key Fobs
In the interest of safety, Pontiac requires that you have 2004-2010 Grand Prix remotes programmed by a dealership or a factory-authorized automotive locksmith.

To answer your question about a key: My 99 does not have a chip, I'd have to see a 00 key to know if it was chipped or not. But you should be able to get one made that will open door and start car. If it does have a chip, the new key will at least open the doors. Check a local hardware, they will be cheaper. But if yours has a chip, and you need a chip as a spare, you will have to hit the dealer up (or get one off Ebay and take it somewhere and have it cut if that's cheaper).
Also, at the hardware I work at, you can get 2 types of keys...1 will look similar to your stock key with the plastic head. The other is just all metal. The metal ones are cheaper and nicer to keep in smaller places like purse or wallet or to hide somewhere on the car.
If your wanting to hide a key on the car, look for a magnetic hide a key box. You can stick them underneath the car for emergency occasions. Just make sure you stick it inside a U ledge channel if possible, so it has support and won't fall out, sometimes those magnets aren't the best to hang upside down with road travel.
