Thread: where to splice for loc with monsoon

My car is a 01 regal with the monsoon. I'm adding a sub and was going to use a loc or high level input depending on the amp I get. Here's my question: is it better to splice into the input before or after the amp or does it matter? I've searched several threads on here but nothing specifies this.

I would splice Into the stock subwoofer output so I would be able to control them somewhat with stock deck

I would say before because some amplifiers have high level inputs, and the LOC turns the high level into RCA correct? So the LOC would convert the high level into RCA to go into your subwoofers amplifier. I wouldn't let my word be final though.

Well either before or after will be high level signals. But the signal is amplified obviously after it has went through the amp.

The deck controls the input to the monsoon amp, which in turn controls the output of the amp so I'm not sure what you meant here.


Really my concern is does the amp change the signal that is being sent out? Like is there a crossover point after the amp that is designed for the 6X9's? Obviously they couldn't handle very low frequencies like a sub could. I've spliced after the amp as of now but the amp I won off ebay was shot so I'm getting another amp right now so there's no way to test this. I was just thinking that the signal may be altered by the monsoon amp to protect the small stock woofers.

Sub. I wired off that and have had full
Control off the subs. But If you don't use the RCA converter your stereo won't output sound. I used a resistor to trick the system into thinking nothing hooked up so it does trip. Let me know what ya en up doing

Locs can handle the power. For instance the scosche loc is good up to 80 watts per channel input.

Tag the lines on the input of the factory amp....it is full range going into the amp and it is filtered and amped coming out of it. You'll get a cleaner signal tagging those lines.

This is what i was thinking too. If it was an aftermarket deck, the amp preoup would be the pure signal with no changes at all. The amped signal would actually be fine to work with but not filtered. But I've not found any information anywhere to tell me for sure or not if the signal is filtered.

For those that stumble across this. I tried both ways. Splicing before the amp does not get you enough voltage to drive the amp. You have to splice on the output.
