hey guys i have a 05 grand prix and the cd player doesnt work cause it wont take in any cds so today i went to best buy to get a aftermarket one and i found a basic sony one with aux for 60 bucks and i went to get it and i was told installation would cost 180 without the car stereo price included and my jaw dropped the lady told me it is 100 bucks for the wiring harness so i just walked out the store cause im not gonna drop more than a 100 bucks on a cd player. so you guys have any solutions on my problem i was gonna buy the stock radio but i was told it was useless unless i went to the dealer to activate it any ideas?

Use a metra 97-2003 wiring harness. You will lose your door warning chimes and the date on your drivers information center, but its a $20 harness.

Intalling a stereo is pretty easy to do, to the point where its mostly all color coded.

Its REALLY easy. All you have to do is splice and crimp wires, which requires minimal experiance. I do my wiring harnesses while watching tv because they can take some time. If you have any issues just post up, GPF can get you through it.

No, its literally a $100+ harness. On ebay you can find them for $65, but I still refuse to pay that. I'd rather just lose the date and door chimes.

same here if i was gonna spend 100 bucks on something it would be the stereo not the wire that hooks up to it and thanks for the tips imma try to do it myself and also do i only need the harness and stereo and im good to go or do i need something else

You'll also need the stereo surround aka "install kit", It's the plastic that will make it fit flush/ properly mount in your current stereo hole.

Besides that, that's it. Stereo, intall kit, and wiring harness.

This would be for a double din
    http://www.amazon.com/Metra-95-3527-.../dp/B0014GII0I

This would be for a single
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...7VKPMT71QWWRV4

You could just pick that up when you purchase the stereo.

I would order the wiring harness online though. I had to go through a few shops before I found one that would sell me what I wanted.
