So I am going to get an aftermarket CD player for my car but I am not sure on which one I need. Now before I start hearing all the rants about this brand is better then this brand, I don't really care about brand names. I am not building a wicked sound system. Just want something better then what I have. Now my question is I have an IPhone and I want it to be able to play through the deck. Now I know with an IPod you can get the decks with IPod control and it will change the songs from the deck. Can I still do this with an IPhone as long as it is in IPod mode? Also do I have to get a deck with IPod control or can I change songs with a deck using Bluetooth?

If you want a stereo that will grow with your installation...

Alpine CDA-117 is a good start. Add a PXA-H100 and you have enough variables/options to build an extremely competent system that could rival any.

Another one is the KDC-x995 from Kenwood.

I like these two units because of their digital signal processors. You can actively tune/choose crossover points, they have time alignment, and good enough equalizers. They both do well with ipods and iphones. I believe the KDC comes with parrot bluetooth already installed.

You gotta see if the aftermarket deck you get allows you to change the songs on your Ipod with it's controls or if you have to switch songs using the Ipod. My brother head unit, he has to change it through his Ipod, where as my friends head unit can change the songs through the head unit. I think the higher end ones will feature the ability to change songs using the deck instead of the Ipod.

Not sure about your bluetooth question.. do you want to connect your Ipod to your deck using bluetooth and then be able to switch songs using the deck? If so I don't think I've heard of a head unit able to do this yet. The bluetooth feature is usually to have your calls on your phone rerouted to your car speakers allowing hands free operation.

Well I do know that new decks and new ipods/iphones can stream audio to your bluetooth stereo. And I do know that you can use a bluetooth headset and stop/start songs.

Ah I see what you mean, I had that on my old windows mobile phone about a few years back, it was pretty cool.

That'd be pretty awesome to have it work like that, eliminate the use of wires ya know.

Here's some videos on the x995. I know lots of people who stream utilizing their phone and bluetooth. I have also read a lot of feedback where people didn't read the instructions and were mad the bluetooth wasn't sending a stereo signal It looks like there's the option to control your ipod listening via the iPod or the HU as well

Click here and choose the videos tab

Matter of fact I'm calling my brother right now to get an x995. Now that I'm looking into it I'd like to try it out

Well, your desire to not run wires kinda kills this suggestion, but I use the Pioneer deh-3200ub in my GP. Full ipod/iphone control via usb plug on the face, hpf for my interior speakers, decent eq.... not bad for the $100 I paid for it. It only has 2 sets of pre-outs though, so that's a downside depending on how you set up your systems.

One still slow and loud... other one scoots just a bit.
