Thread: Looking for some nice 6x9's

6x9s can produce what your looking for but you will always be wanting to try a sub.
getting a HU should be first, they can make a huge difference.
personally not that great on 6x9s i know a few good brands from the SQ guys but they are pricey, and those are Image Dynamics and Focal

personally i'm still running the stocks, only the front the back is all deadened. For stock i can't complain most people think its aftermarket (i've played with the HU alot)

Stereo = 2 channels.

If you have two channels up front then you have completed a "stage". If you put stereo in the rear you've successfully added a second "stage". But now they compete. Unless you process the information going tot he rear speakers or time align then they will always compete with your front stage and take away.

So unless you decide you want digital signal processing as part of your install I'd stay away from 6x9's in the rear. The only reason they "seem" cool is because they have as much surface area as an 8" speaker cone. Hence, why people think they put out more bass.

Here's where I differ from the crowd. I know I'm not at a concert and in my car there is no stage. Therefore I like to saturate the area around me with front and rear speakers. Adding a sub later will be easy if you run the wiring with your HU install.

I went with Boston Acoustic all around and for the cost it's a good setup for me. I've heard lots of good things about the sound quality vs price with Infinity Kappas, but never tried them out.

The purpose of stereo channels is to recreate a stage So you HAVE A STAGE!!! It's just that the factory install effed it up. In addition, you don't need pricey stuff for it to sound nice. I wish people could demo my setup. I used stock locations(except for the tweeter) and as long as it's a good recording it's all in front of you.

You can watch my sub move and you literally can't hear it. The sub blends that well with the mids. People think my mids are creating all that bass until I point out the sub...then they're all "uh...the sound comes from up front...it just looks like it's moving for no reason?"

BA is pretty good at what they do. I'd love to try them out!

Anyways, my sub is $50, front speakers $150, and you'd be jealous Audio doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. Anything above $250 and your capacity for discerning the "quality" is severely limited. Keep it cheap, keep it simple, keep it smart!

Well this hobby can go as far as you want. Bose uses a full range driver that's ~$3. However, they're able to maximize it's potential through proper installation. Next thing you know the $3 driver they started with ends up over $1k depending on the package you buy into. That's the key behind speaker response, proper environment per the speakers specifications.

Anyways, I just told a guy to check out morel maximo's on amazon. They were $85 shipped so you might want to hold off and wait for them to go on sale again. Personally, I prefer a better mid-range speaker and typically you have certain issues with 6.5" that you don't have with 5-1/4 and vice versa. I tried 6.5" in my vehicle but with the cone material I had issues that are probably too in depth to mention right now.

If you have a polymer cone go with 5-1/4. Paper coated...6.5" would probably be ok. With those Morel's I mentioned...5-1/4. The problem with the morel's I mentioned is that due to their crossover point you probably want to stay away from the stock locations. Instead grab those neato kick panels that are available for your model years. Make sure you get a nice good seal between the speaker and the panel. Then make certain the panel is sealed against the car/carpet niceley. After that...i would add some wool fill inside the actual kick panel. Hrmmm. Now that I think of it...I think you can get away with 6.5" morel if you do it that way? I'd probably still stick with 5-1/4 though.

Oh ya...head unit. I told that other guy to check out the KDC-x995 by Kenwood. i think it's the best bang for buck on the market right now. Buy head unit and install first. It's nice to listen to the system grow

Polk is good, focal,jbl,infinity,boston,D series pioneer, kenwood. As stated, I wouldnt worry alot about the 6x9 and get a good front stage!

Honestly, for rear fill, a set of component sets sound better than 6x9s imo. They also aren't hard to install, as there are numerous cheap adapter plates for a quick and painless process. However, as was mentioned before, the Polk Audio DB series of coax and component speakers are very nice for the price.... check Amazon. You can do your front stage and rear fill with Polk products and come in under your $250 budget, especially if you use coax up front instead of components. Also, Sound Deadener Better than Dynamat - Audio Technix has some VERY well-priced sound-deadening products. Deadening your front doors and covering all of the large holes, essentially making your door a proper enclosure, does wonders for the response of your mids.... if you are wanting to go that far. In any case, a quality headunit and an amplifier will make a drastic improvement in your sound. You don't need a crazy expensive amp... audiopipe has the apsm4050 (About 90 shipped on amazon) that does 50x4rms @ 4 ohms... good luck!
