Alright, I'm getting frustrated with the hunt for the "right" wiring harness...

I've seen people have used the 70-2003 on a 04 and the only thing that was lost was door chimes.

Today I stopped at 2 local shops and they said I needed the $120 (MSRP) wiring harness. The first shop just said that running the cheap one would mess up my car, the other said my airbags, abs, dash lights and some other stuff won't work right.

I'd rather not pay $70+ for a harness if I can do the same with a $10 harness and just lose door chimes...

FWIW, I went to wal-mart today and they had a GM harness that said it went up to 04 for a GP... But it looked kinda funny to me...

    Anybody have any input?

2004 grandprix radio install - YouTube

This video tells me I should just try the cheap harness first, so I will...

The wiring harness either connects to RAP or it doesn't. But it's only necessary to tap into RAP if you'd like to keep door chimes n' such. Otherwise you just need a couple of wires: 12V always on and ground. Throw a switch between them and your after market radio will work. If you want it to work with the turn of a key, you need RAP

what does the 04+ have? Onstar etc??

the harness i needed was $169 from pac audio, but i found one locally for $69. IMo its worth keeping chimes and other features working (ie onstar)

i went the cheap method. never looked back at not having door chimes....wonderful when your detailing and have the driver's door open....or when your passenger doesn't put their seatbelt on (i always do)
