Ok so one of my speaker pods came lose. So took panel off. Since i was in there i had a set of Type R Component speakers. So i said what the hell good time to try them out see if i like them. Get them hooked up to both sides.
This is where the first problem came my morels have a sensitivity rating of 90DB. Type R's 87. Ok so have to set the gain up.
2nd issue, Sound quality. I have to say im very disappointed in these. I listened do some tracks i know and it was just missing something only way i can describe it is clarity and did not sound like the mid rang was there.
3rd issue is these are too easy to distort. My morels took what i threw at them. Now that i have to turn the gain up (i mean i had to almost double the gain) to get these speakers to preform the amp is now starting to clip :-/
Im not using a cheap amp by any means. I am using an Eclipse EA400. 150watts RMS or 175 peak.
I spent a good couple hours redoing my eq settings due to fact different speakers require different eq. I got them sounding better but still seems like it is lacking.
I really wish i had a oscilloscope so i can peak the amp. But i dont so tomorrow im gonna try the next best thing and that is finding the AC voltage the speaker output should be putting out and tuning it with a DMM.
I used to be big in audio and such but after the years im losing my touch :-/
I know that speaks will change after about 20hrs of play time. I know my morels did and you could tell, they starting singing like no other.
So im going to give these type R's a month and see where they stand. So far im not to impressed. Also because i dont want to mess up my nice tight door panels. LOL
Sorry about my rant. Any one have any experience with Type R components.
I know i was down grading when i swapped them out but i was not thinking it would be that big of a difference. Another way i can describe it seems like i went from a new Z06 to a stock GTP
