My gp has the base package not the monsoon no onstar and the DIC only shows trip, miles, date, and settings. I went to bestbuy to purchase the Pioneer AVH-P2300DVD and they told me I would need a interface control module. Is this true? Also does anyone know where I can find instructions to remove the factory HU. Thanks for the help!

Not sure about the interface control module but to remove the factory head unit you just pry off the front peice that goes around the head unit a/c controls and the storage compartment then there is 8 screws that hold in the 3 different sections. Start at the bottom storage compartment and work your way up from there and it will just slide out.
EDIT: to pry off the plastic peice start at the bottom and lift there. Also the key ring(black peice around the key) will just pop out once the plastic peice comes off.

All that happens is you lose your chimes and your engine oil monitor (I never saw mine again after I put in my HU). Not enough to justify spending the extra cash IMO. It's not hard to tell when your oil needs changed.
Also, almost everything in the car audio dept is marked up 50%.

If you are really serious about changing from stock HU to aftermarket PLEASE do yourself a favor and go to crutchfield.com and look up what you want, they will guide you to everything you need. Their customer support is about the best that you are going to find if you run into any trouble. They include step by step instructions on how to install whatever product you purchase. Absolutely can't be beat in customer service.

If the bank approves the loan for buying from crutchfield...

Just bought everything for my new system. Saved over $500 by *not* using crutchfield. The free install gear ($35 VALUE!!!!!) and generic print outs aren't worth $500.

OP: The interface module is just to keep chimes, etc. If you can live without it, you don't need it. I like to keep things in working order, so I got it.

I started the installation process and noticed there were two wires plugged into the back of my factory HU. I know that one is the output for the speakers and everything and I bought the GM 24pin adapter so I do not have to splice those wires. Does anyone know what the other group of wires are it is the smaller plug that is next to the larger plug. Thanks!

Since you don't have Monsoon or OnStar the only thing in that little plug that you use is vehicle speed signal for your speed compensated volume that you don't have on your aftermarket anyway so just ignore this plug
