My 05 Grand prix GT has the Monsoon stereo 6 disc changer with XM. (xm is not used)

I currently have i lifetime Sirius subscription with a Sportster 5 radio on my windshield. I am using the magnetic sirius antenna right now.

Since the car has a XM antenna above the rear window, can i use it and extend the wire up to my radio. That way i can get rid of the magnetic antenna.

I want to keep the portable radio rather than use the In-dash radio.

Yup it will work, Best to make an adapter to you dont have to cut the factory wiring, just unplug then route to your sattelite radio.

you do know that Sirius and XM are the same company???

you can call XM/Sirius and add the Radio ID of your GP, then there is no messing with aftermarket equipment

OK, anyone that may be wondering. The stock XM antenna on the GRand Prix works great with Sirius radios.

The control box is near the drivers side taillight behind the carpet.

I removed the XM antenna from the control box and cut the end off( leaving enough to resplice later if needed).

I then took my magnet mount Sirius antenna and cut off the antenna.

Reroute the sirius antenna down to the XM controller.

Strip the wire back on both and splice the center wire of both together, then splice the braided wire together. Cut off the foil shield.

Make sure the braided wire does not touch the center wires. Tape up or heat shrink.

Enjoy stock antenna with any sirius radio.
