I got my 2006 GPGT in September, and absolutely love it. Replaced my 1998 GTP which was totaled when some moron took a left when they should have waited and hit my wife head on - totaling both vehicles. I bought my 2006 with 93k on it for $6,500.00 and have been really pleased. Loaded with everything expect on-star, as well as a magna-flow exhaust, K&N CAI, and AR casino wheels, it makes for a nice daily driver that still keeps the sport car demons partial satisfied in the winter months.

At any rate, the car has the OE remote start option, and the range on this this is just absymal. If I can get more that 20', I'm lucky. I can sometimes get near 30' of range if I do the "chin and point" method - boy does that look goofy. The manual calls for up to ~600' of range, what a joke. I've tried 2 new batteries, no improvement. I can't even start the thing from my upstairs rear bedroom when its in the garage directly behind my house.

Now, I've read some and this is apparently pretty common, but I'm hoping to start a new thread to get some idea's from you guys on what you're getting for range on the OE remote start Grand Prix's, and what you've done to improve the range. I see there is an aftermarket company that has a system to retrofit with the OE system to retain the automatic heating/air conditioning benefits of the OE system, but it seems like there must be a cheaper way to get better performance out of the this system.

WOW that does suck. I tested mine not long ago to see how far it would start from. I went almost 2 full blocks (not NYC blocks) and it fired right up. Not sure how feet that is per say but it was a good distance away from the car. Wish I had a suggestion for you but I dont, hope you get it all figured out though.

Try putting it up to ur jaw, open and press the start button. The human body acts as an antenna.

That's what I'm calling the "chin and point" method, it gets me another 10 or so feet in range.

Dang. If I can get more than 7 or 8 feet on mine, I consider THAT lucky.

05 and up use an antenna built into the rear window for the keyless and remote starting similiar to the am/fm antenna in the same glass.

You should beable to look inside your window and see if the cable is infact connected on the glass, look inside on the passenger side and you should beable to see it...I think its above the drfroster connector a little bit.

there is also a way i seen on you tube the guys name is kipkay and type in key fab extender or keyless remote extender and that could help it involves soldering a small wire to the little antenna inside the remote an loop it once inside and close it back up it might work for your car i did it on an old car of mine and it gave me like 50 feet more

I've got excellent range on my factory remote start. I started it from the back of the shop, inside the building I work in, which was at least 100 feet away.
