I really like what ive read about the FI Q 12" subwoofer but my question is should i build a sealed or ported encloser? Im not going for the loudest system i just want the sub to pick up a lot notes and sound good.

Ported and tune it low. It will not disappoint you. just make sure you set the subsonic within like 3-4hz of the tuning frequency or you will stress out the suspension and start to break stuff.
sadly they only use an 8" spider so yeah, keep the SSF tight.
lower if possible.
But it really depends on what you listen to.
I like to be able to hit 20 Hz with authority at the minimum.
Thats for the recommended box size.
I took a sub that had a recommended tune of 25-30 Hz and tuned it to 12.5 Hz. Was awesome.
I put my q15 in a 7.5 cube box and tuned it to 22hz and man was that cool. I like the lowwws...
you'd sacrifice 30-35 Hz.
But since you're talking ported, you would be giving up stuff you dont need.
flat response is what you want when i had the sa12s tuned to 23hz i could pull all the way up to 55hz and still be loud 138s from 27hz to 48hz
