Tweeter Pods

Well here is one of my a-pillar pods for my tweets. Have a set of DLS UR1's to put in them. First attempt at pods for me. Started out with the tops of spray paint cans LOL! Feel free to look at the other pics in the album for more of the process.

Damn, you'd never be able to tell they started out as spray paint can tops. Looks great so far.

Get some finished pictures up, with the tweeters... I wanna see em.

Hopefully tomorrow. The tweets mounting flange have been cut so I need to make some grills to cover up the actually speakers to look good but the rest i'm hoping on having installed tomorrow. Thanks for checking it out!

off-axis goodness.

I really think it'd sound much better if you put them on axis.

Kinda late for that now though isn't it?

Major kudos for actually doing some fab work though.

I've thought about the placement too. Hope they work well where I have them but I have a few ideas on how to tilt them a bit if I need to...really hoping I don't have to though. Should find out in a few hours.

Well here they are in car. Sorry for the bad pics but it's just a phone camera. Haven't had a lot of time to tune it all but everything sounds good so far. Not as bad of reflections off the windshield as I was expecting. Think I'm going to swap out the amp from 100x2 to 200x2 and see how that goes. Now on to the rear deck and to make speaker grills for the front.

I didn't realize you were using those DLS until I looked at the photo. I've seen lots of setups aimed like that. Your tweeter cups are acting like somewhat of a waveguide too. I wonder if that's helping problems with reflections?

Well what happens in the set up is the far tweeter opposite of you is close to an on-axis or direct path while the closer tweet is very indirect. My hopes was that it would help with stereo imaging. The cup/waveguide effect might be helping with some of the problems normally associated with the locations. It was something new for me to check out.

Next up will two of the tang band 6x9 subs and some dayton 4 inch full range speakers. Have the subs go from 40-300 and the 4's 300 to 4k or so with a light 6db/oct rolloff. I'll be building the passive crossovers myself for them so that'll be a new thing for me to. You never learn anything if you don't try stuff out. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Where are the 6x9's going?

Because you might as well run the CSS SDX7 if they're going in the doors.

Also which specific dayton drivers were you thinking of using?

nice idea, has anyone put aftemarket tweeters in the stock locations?? if so how? if there is a thread were is it? I need some help with this, i got some tweeters i need to install but not sure how to make them fit in the stock locations?????

In the front doors I have DLS UR6's. I guess my post came off that I was doing a three way setup up front.

Well the 6x9s are going in the rear deck stock locations along with the 4's. Just for bass and a little rear fill. They will be amped also. I'll be modding the rear deck as needed to stiffen the baffle.

These were the ones I was looking at. Nothing fancy and CHEAP.

As far as the stock location there isn't a whole lot of room. For example There wasn't enough room to do my DLS tweets there. If your tweets are smaller you could probably cut out the stock mounting brackets and make some type of bracket. I'd probably use banding straps glassed in on the back side and then drill a hole in it to mount the tweet or something to that effect. Kind of hard to explain. How I come up with things is I look around the garage/house till I see something that will work. How do you think I thought of the spray paint tops? LOL!

I'd suggest a poly or preferably treated paper cone.

Cheap Al woofers dont like being crossed over high.

82 dB @ 1 W @ 1 m isn't really good considering the low power handling.

Next time I'm down there I'll have to hear this.

Curious how its going to work out.

What sort of music do you listen to?

What are your listening habits? volume wise.

I see your concerns on them. I figured I'd get away with it crossing to over at 4-5k since the response is to 10k. I'm open to suggestions for sure if you have a driver in mind. Ive tried running no rear fill and have never liked it. This build is definitely more of a SQL build than a true SQ build. It rocks pretty good with the stock speakers in the back yet just looking at making it better. I listen to everything as far as music goes. I just want to get on to the sub section! LOL!

Well did you plan on using this driver to replace the ones you have in the doors or in addition to?

I'd really suggest using them in addition as in having a mid range, tweeter as well as midbass and sub

Think you missed it. I have DLS UR6's up front with the 6.5 in the door and the tweet in the pillar.

Rear deck 4" rear fill and 6x9 sub/midbass.

Then next month or so 15" sub.

Now I know it's not the best to put a midbass in the rear like that but I'm not going for perfect staging and imaging..more on tonality(is that a word?LOL). Having the midbass in the deck will pull the stage back a bit but i'm alright with that.

hmm.

All i can really say is once you get that 15 going the rear deck speakers will shout for mercy unless you leave the pass through open or open up the rear deck somehow.
