I just finished putting my pioneer head unit into my new car (2000 gtp) it had a kenwood HU in it already, it also had the SWI-ALP steering wheel control interface. However, the interface will not work with the pioneer HU so i took it out. When I hooked everything on the pioneer up there is NO SOUND!!! If i hook it up in my other car (another gp) everything works fine. Anyone have any experience with the steering wheel interface things? that's the only thing I can think of that would have anything to do with the sound issue. (like which wires from the car harness have to be hooked up to it)

^ This. If you are still using the factory bose or if it has the factory amp for the rear then it cuts off the sound. You need to bypass the factory amp inputs in the harness.

yes. The new one had the bose, I think it may use the amp if that is possible. The speakers defiantly sound amped, but they are all aftermarket speakers.

But if it already had an aftermarket system in it, would it already be bypassed?

According to *Universal Steering Wheel Control By Pac Swi-Alp (Alpine, Kenwood, Jvc) - PAC - SWI-ALP that interface control is for Alpine and Kenwood decks only. You may need to purchase this one for it to work. PAC SWI-PS Steering Wheel Control Interface Advent, Dual, Jensen, Pioneer, Sony and Visteon Radios ? Car Audio & Video ? MonsterMarketplace.com
This may solve your problems without having to rewire everything.
