You're right on the 17-20kHz thing. My hearing tops out at 16kHz, at least based on the files on this site:

Depressing, because I used to be able to hear to 20kHz in high school.
Anyway, I was just repeating what I read. Some guy did a sine sweep with a microphone in his car (a VW with a Monsoon) and that's what he found. Don't know what carries over to this car.
