I want to get an input for my iPOD but unfortunately I don't think there is an easy way to do it. I don't NEED it to charge but it would be nice if it did, plus if I could control it through the steering wheel that would be a plus. Any ideas?

Has anyone done this before or could someone lead me to the right direction?

One of those? but for that price, you could just go get an ipod compatible deck and but the pac steering wheel interface and have what you want.

    "

    • Not compatible with factory radios that have a 6-disk in dash CD changer.
    • Not compatible with any factory external audio source such as: XM tuner, CD changer, or Cassette player. These devices must be disconnected during the installation and will no longer function. (Experienced installers can retain XM Radio. Please see the "Technical Documents" section for further details.)"

    Mine have both.

to my knowledge (i spent very little time looking into this) i never found anything that worked for us. Best bet would be an aftermarket head unit. Good luck figuring this one out

There are several compatible decks on Crutchfield that allow you to control your iPod with your steering wheel controls. They're kinda pricey, but I know they have them. If you have any of the aforementioned addons you'll need to sacrifice (unless it's XM).

Okay well seeing as it'll be pretty expensive, could I just get a double din installed and call it a day?

    I went with this:

Precision Interface Electronics GM12-AUXv2 Connect a portable music player, satellite radio tuner, or DVD player to your factory GM receiver at Crutchfield.com

I don't have XM or a CD changer so it worked out perfectly, and the car even reads it as Aux In (it takes up 2 bands though, replacing XM1 and XM2). Didn't take too long to install either, and I just used some 3M double sided adhesive to stick it to the inside wall where the stereo is. I also got an RCA to 3.5mm adapter and a retractable 3.5mm audio cable and drilled a small hole in the back of the little storage compartment. All in all took like 45 minutes, but really shouldn't take more than 20 (most of my time was wasted on being overly careful not to break things).

So now I'm assuming this won't work with my stock unit as it has the 6 cd changer and xm?

Are there any specific double dins I need to look at? Do they all do pretty much the same thing?

I don't really know what I should be looking for so any help would be greatly appreciated!

This one has optional XM expandability, iPod control (also bypasses the iPod's DAC for better audio conversion), can interface with your steering wheel controls, and is also double din:

Pioneer FH-P8000BT CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

There are plenty of decks to look at on Crutchfield, just tell it which kind of car you have and it'll pick out the ones that are compatible. Then all you need to do is filter based on what you want/need.

    Thanks for the advice!

Here are a couple things I need if you can help me out. Steering wheel controls, xm and ipod control with the steering wheel, and I don't want to spend too much. Best bang for the buck would be the best.

I have the same car and stereo and have been looking into the same thing. Look at crutchfield.com then outfit your car. It looks like short of a new deck your choices are the aux input device or bluetooth device. The aux input looks pretty much plug and play. The steering wheel controls will only work for volume and input. The Parrot blutooth devices are made to be compatible with Ipods and there are good reviews. The only catch is you really need to know what your doing when installing the device. There is no wiring harness kit.

Could you link me to the Aux Input device? Will it for sure work with our stereo?

If I can't get an Aux Input device I mine as well put in a double din unit. These are the two that I'm looking at.

Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD DVD receiver at Crutchfield Signature

Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com

Either or I'm sure will do the job.

Any other help or advice would be great. Has anyone else even attempted this with the newer models with the monsoon system?

    Got to crutchfield

Under Car Audio & Video, go to Outfit my Car and follow the steps.

    Here are the direct links.

Aux input - Very easy install.

Trickier installs for the following but should work great while also providing bluetooth for your car.

    Parrot MKi9100 -

    Parrot MKi9200

You can add an aux input to your car with the monsoon deck. I posted a how to on this a while back.

    Would this be it?

    http://www.grandprixforums.net/f73/h...4-a-21849.html

    http://seaclubgp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1798

So basically what you're doing is tapping into the xm satellite? Seems fairly simple but can you still use your steering wheel controls etc?

Afaik you can still use the steering wheel controls, there's no reason why you couldn't. They won't control your mp3 player, but that should be kinda obvious.

I did the same type of thing in my '95 Grand Am (total piece lol) except I soldered directly onto the board inside the deck (it's an aftermarket Pioneer). I now use it in conjunction with a 250w PC PSU and 4 old 6x9 car speakers that are all held together by zip ties and erector set pieces in a cardboard box (it's ported with leftover styrofoam from the box). Super ghetto boombox ftw.

Sorry for the shinfo, just thought I'd share.
