One morning I woke up to this misfortune:

Some pond scum decided to make off with my deck, subs, amp and a bunch of other stuff. Never wanting to go through that misery again, I decided to do something about it. I got a two-way alarm put in and then came up with this to protect my subs and amp:

It's not complete yet because I'm making some cage mesh that will cover the entire area in front of the subs. I will post pics of that when it's done but figured I'd post my progress so far. Sorry for the low-quality pics.

I know it's not going to be theft-proof, but it should slow anyone down enough so that I can meet them outside with a louisville before they have a chance to run off with anything.

The box is too big. I thought of that and purposely made it so it wouldn't fit past the metal frame. This box is just my temporary box until I finish my fiberglass one that will be a more custom fit. This one is too big to pull out from behind the seats already, but the fiberglass one will be an even tighter fit.
Like I said, it is not theft proof. Bolt cutters or a saw will get it out in a minute or two, but when I did some reading I found out that like 90-95% of car thefts take place in a matter of seconds. I don't think my stereo system is expensive enough for anyone to want to invest that kind of effort or time when you can get more from another car with a lot less effort.

im sorry to hear about that. here are some other ideas: when i had my system, i made sure it was virtually unstealable. first off i have a two way alarm with an LCD screen on my remote that tells me the status of the car down to which door the theif opened. then i have tints so all windows are lamiated, that would take time to break. both amps and both caps were screwed into my box, thats either alotta screws or alotta wires to unhook or cut. the box was heavy enough and you HAD to take off the amps because the box would not come out with them on, it was too big. so it would take forever to steal everything and with the alarm going off hes been heard and my remote would tell me and if he punched my window i now have his blood.

BUT i like the steal cage, its just bada$$

Thanks man. Yeah, my two-way is just like yours and I really like it. I also have the darkest tint that Utah law will allow. Every thing on my box is screwed in as well. It's all about slowing them down.

yep slow them down till you get the bat like you said. im not from the safest place in america so i know people who steal and how to deter those people.

i know of a system that was solen in less that 10 minutes with 5 people going slow and taking there time. i was a HUGE box with 2 memphis MOJOS and 2 big amps, but the victim had no alarm on his cavi...the whole operation was orchestrated, practiced, and timed. some serious stuff goes on out there, they were in the car in 13 seconds...

Wow, that's nuts. We're moving out of that crappy neighborhood so hopefully this is much less of a risk for me.

I can't believe that person you were talking about didn't have an alarm with a system like that. You're just asking for trouble. My system is only worth a few hundred bucks so that's just another element in the security - it's really not worth the trouble they would go to. The payoff just wouldn't be that great.
Thieves need to have their hands chopped off, I think. You'd see crime plummet if the punishment was actually enough to motivate people to not commit crimes. Dirt bags.

Damn that sucks man I know how it is getting something stolen from your car because we have had two cars stolen from us, but I guess thats the risk you run by living in one of the cities with the highest auto thefts in the country.

When you had your cars stolen, did you ever get either of them back in decent shape or back at all?

I am by no means an expert at installing things.. but I will call myself somewhat of an expert at removing things.. lol

I've never stolen things, but we've tried it on a couple of mine and friends cars.. as long as the alarm can be disabled.. thieves have all the time in the world. If I had 10 minuets of safe working time, as a thief.., I could jack pretty much any system out there, I'd even take the seats if it was an 04+ GP

Your metal cage is a good idea.. but what about a bolt cutters? If a *good* thief is going to hit your car.. he already knows what tools he needs to bring, and what you have holding down everything... I've seen inside many cars when the owners are standing right next to it, and they have no idea whose looking..

My brother in laws car got broken into by a couple of rookies a few years back, and they couldn't get the box out, so they just took their crowbar and punched holes in the subs, and smashed the amps with the bar.. pond scum at their finest..
