I don't remember seeing any "standard" ones that went flush. The bezels that come from places like Crutchfield and the like where they are specific for the car make the head unit stick out almost 1 inch. My wife even thought that it looked like crap, thus the reason I went with the HUMount. It was pricey (mine cost me $100 shipped to my door), but you don't HAVE to get one that lights up and save $15-$20, and you don't HAVE to get the extra writing on the ring that goes around the head unit opening, etc. You can save a few bucks that way. Not sure, but if they are using a CNC machine to carve/cut these, I would think that they could do something custom, but it will cost even more.

they are pretty amazing looking though!

It is a little hard to tell in the pictures...is yours the fine black texture finish? Did you have to cut your dash bracket to fit the stereo flush like that or does it sit like that in the mount without other mods? What are you currently looking to get for it?

its a direct fit in the dash like the stock head unit and that is how it sits out of the box. no modding of anything necessary.

honestly after seeing the HUmount in person, its not that hard to make a copy of the design and then you can use whatever material and style you want.

That is what I figured, but I have not seen one in person and I can't seem to find a write up of how to do it. Would love to see a good write up with pics on a custom piece anyone has done.

use the head unit mount from crutchfield. there's two pieces, you only need the main rectangular one.

    remove factory radio.
dremel out the little piece of metal/sub-frame/dashboard directly behind the head unit
put new head unit in said rectangular piece. (it will sit flush)
install, put your four screws in, add dash piece.

FLUSH. if it weren't -500* outside, i'd go take pictures. if you can't figure it out, you don't deserve a flush receiver.

I am not as worried about getting it flush. I do like the flush look better, but I mainly want a bezel/dash kit that looks nice--as in not the standard plain black cheap plastic looking thing, but I can't spend a fortune on it.

I have also seen some that have a little pocket right under the stereo. It would make sense that this type would have the stereo raised up a little higher than one that mounts it right in the middle with gobs of cheap plastic on top and bottom of the stereo. Anyone know if this type of set up puts the stereo high enough to clear the brace in the dash so you could mount it further back without cutting?

here's a regular mount without the additional brick out front.

bad photo.. didn't spend a dime on the mount. took ten minutes and it's flush.

That looks really good. So you just used the dremel to carve out the bracket in the dash to let it sit farther back? Do the bezel mounting tabs adjust front to back to allow you to set the depth, or did you just have to carve out the dash to let it slide back farther?

essentially what you are doing is moving the receiver back an inch/inch and a quarter. by removing the front brick, you are allowing the receiver to sit flush. yet due to stock dimensions, you are running into the little dash piece that needs cut in order to allow the receiver to move back that extra inch.

Very helpful. I have not picked up the kit/bezel piece yet, but my only question now is about piece 1 and 2 you referenced. These look like they are one piece. Do they actually come apart? I can see how the bulge would push the stereo forward an inch or two just by not letting it sit flush with the bracket, but I did not realize you could remove that piece.

    i started with this:

if you reference pieces 1 and 2 in my lovely rendition to the crutchfield photo, you will see that you will not need that piece out front, piece 2.

the red line on the right side of my picture shows where you need to cut the dash in order to free up some room (i understand my bracket looks like a train, but it looks something like that).
on piece 1, i have red marks there because IIRC i had to trim a little bit on either side to get it in nice and snug.
the small black rectangles are the pieces that snap in to piece 1 and house the screws (seen in the foreground of the crutchfield photo). now that i think about it, i think these pieces were what i trimmed to get it to fit rather than piece 1 itself.

i don't see why all mounts wouldn't allow you to take that front piece off. it snapped in and out just like the little mounting brackets do on the sides. they were two seperate pieces when i received mine.

The ones I have seen are all one piece. Maybe the crutchfield version is different?

I am also wondering--it looks like most of you have stereos with the USB on the front. Do you like having it on the front better than the back? Do the wires ever get in your way or anything?

mine's in the back, and i dig it that way because the ipod cable goes under the console into the little holder directly in front of the gear shift, where my pod sits.

I went with the JVC as it has dual USB's, one in the back and one in the front. I have the iPhone cradle plugged into the rear and the front is used for the Bluetooth module or anything else that I want. Cleaner looking that way.
