So I am looking at this amp with this sub(to push a full 500 watts rms)... will I need a capacitor to be safe or should I be fine?

typically you want 1 farad of capacitance for every 500 watts RMS of power, but it varies a little from car to car
'04 Chevy Silverado LT 4x4 - intake, headers, full exhaust, zo6 cam, 799 heads, tune, leveled, 33's
'00 Grand Prix GTP DAYTONA 500 - L36 block, S1X, intercooled, GenV, N*, headers, full exhaust, coilovers, 5 speed swap, stage 3+ clutch

Umm, upgrade your cars wiring, get a new lifetime warranty alternator, buy quality amps then ENJOY.

if anything id do the altenator you can get the guts to push 180 amps with a stock size alt like i used to have. Caps suck just buy a good battery like a xtatic or batcap. Doubt youd need it tho good roule of thumb is 1000w for every 1 farad.

And are you sure your cars are not just blown up? Its not nearly as bad as blowed up.

Blowed up is really bad... The piston made itself into a new shape.

The gtp only chipped two pistons and was no where near as spectactular as the explosion that thing made.

Yuppers it sure does, oh well that's life. Maybe looking at fixing the gtp and selling it and just taking the huge loss and get another truck use that for my dd.

Kinda curious if the piston chipping happened before or after headers...

Whatever gets you from A to B however you want to get there.

Nice, well thanks for the info. I'll get everything straight and then run the sound. I am tryin to find amps with the high level inputs so I don't have to worry about preamps and a remote wire... lazy, i know, but they make it for a reason and I really like the Bose system to begin with, I jus want a little extra..

lazy then don't put a system in if your lazy
don't put a cap in it will only hurt you
rca's FTW still going to want a remote wire unless you like having you car jumped

you act like its hard to run wires in this car, i put 0/1 gauge threw it no problem

make sure you get a D class amp or have fun with your heater
