Here's the deal -- I absolutely love having steering wheel controls, but I really miss having a MP3 player in my car. I was thinking of an 04/05 Monsoon series, similar to what's found here. My concern is how it'll wire up. I know MP3 wasn't offered on 03 models, and I'm worried that I won't be able to find an 03-04 adapter for the plugs, and even then that it won't work with my steering controls. So a few questions:

1-Does anyone know of an 03-04 plug adapter? I don't want to frankenstien the plugs.
2-I'm assuming it should mount in directly without dash mods, correct?
3-Am I going to have to live without steering wheel controls?
4-I've noticed my AM/FM button is really unresponsive on my wheel. Any tips for cleaning/making it more responsive?

Thanks for any help. I love this forum - if I'm doing a repair I can find what I need 99.9% of the time.

04+ don't have MP3 jacks on them. I added one in on mine and posted a writeup on how to do it. What you have to worry about though if you really want to do this is how you're going to mod your dash. Your dash is Din 1.5 and the 04 is double din.

I was probably a little vague -- I'm actually replacing the stereo with a 2004 Monsoon MP3 stereo out of a 04 Sunfire. I'm just trying to figure out the wiring situation.

I think it is an interesting idea but do you know that the radio you linked only plays MP3 cds? I mean its kinda cool as in you can put more songs on an MP3 cd and the info might show up on the display (emphasis on might) but there still is no aux port which is what you need if you want to hook up a MP3 player to a radio. Just my .02 cents

Yeah. I'm aware -- but MP3 CDs were what we used on my last car, and I just don't want to spend $$ on a decent MP3 player that holds a decent amount of songs, then have wires hanging out (aux wire and MP3 player power). MP3 CDs are what we're hunting for, and I want to keep the car looking as stock as possible on the inside.

I got ya, I'm the same way wanting the stock look so I can still use the steering wheel buttons... I listen to sirius religiously in the car so I actually took my cd player out and put a tape deck in so I could use a tape adapter and hook it up to the sirius radio eliminating the fm transmitter. Anyway keep up posted on if 04 Sunfire radio works or if you get it hooked up properly, good luck...
