Whiney : and you've been in the vehicle, with it at that sound level?
All I can say is,
Good luck to people listening at those levels. Its uncomfortable, unpleasant, and worth nothing but bragging rights. Until your ears are shot anyway.
I prefer a system to be as flat as possible from 30Hz-12KHz and produce up to 115-120dB for certain things and I try to keep distortion from the speakers them selves down to as close to 1% as possible. I average 90-100dB in normal listening which is even considered high.
Wonder what THD those DD 10's are producing with an inch+ excursion.. I'm sure double digits. Matt or 1800 care to comment?
I'm with you.
I'd bet those Fi Q's will sound better than any DD.
I'd bet the SoundSplinter drivers are cleaner than any DD.
I'd bet, that if you're looking for a similar sound, decently loud, on the cheap, go for Mach 5 Audio.

Cheap as dirt but good and in Canada so no customs and cheaper shipping.
If you want reviews on any of them, lemme know, I own an IXL18.2.2.

Those look pretty promising, if i go with 2, IXL-12 v2 SL. Not like i'm at a huge loss if i don't like them. And no i have not been in something in the 150db range but there is a guy in swift pulling 153db in a ford focus, with a fully loaded fi btl 18".
Focus on making it sound good, that way, when you crank it, people will be amazed at how clean it is.
My car with two $13.50 subs will hit 120 dB, shake your hair, resonate your chest etc.
they can handle 200 watts RMS each and have an Xmax of 9 mm.
So consider what you're getting yourself into with this other stuff here.
Personally I'd try setting up your old subs differently to see if what you're seeing here is a lack of install.
That is the thing i am wondering, they are in a .75cu/ft box, sealed. And they are reccomended for .95cu/ft. So i am wondering if that is going to make huge difference building the box to spec. I have them positioned about 8" away from the back of the trunk.
Put them about an inch or two away from the back of the trunk while facing the back wall as well.
Also open the rear pass through and leave it down. THAT is a must for any trunk mounted sub unless you pull your rear 6x9's out and pull the plastic mounts as well.
I have tried that and that is usually the way i keep it unless i have people in the back. I'm just wondering about the box now? I still want to get a set of 12's regardless of what i do.
You said sealed right?
Build a nicely braced one... lemme find an example...
I'd show you my home sub but its kinda difficult to get the sub out, the rubber gasket seems to have glued itself to the paint. (the cutout is actually just that small.)

This guys got the right idea.
LOL at 110 at 15 Hz though...

Yes i want to go sealed, .95cu/ft per chamber, or as close to that as I can.

Some real subs....

This is why 18's belong in the home... Unless you're going to put them in properly, and only put one LOW xmax one in...wow i wanted some 18's before i saw this lol
The size of the box depends on the subs you're going with.
I guess once i get rid of these subs i'm going to have to make a s=decision as to what i want to get. There is just so much out there, i like the idea of 2 12's though.
Do you care much for quality? And how much are you willing to spend?
If you're on a budget, just get the mach5 IXL12's they'll be plenty.
Ok, then that is what i will try. Once i get rid of these mtx's i will get a set, hopefully i have a guy that wants them.
You'd be giving up 2 dB of headroom at lower levels versus the 12" Q's and i think 2 dB at all levels compared to the W7. For a significant cost savings.
If i ever get the time/money, i'm going to somehow put my IXL18 in my car... That or sell it.
