And when the dummer hits cymbols on opposing sides of his kit... you will hear them, but they'll both sound like their coming from the front.
Its like saying, why not have one channel in the middle and forget about stereo.
If your speakers are crappy, in metal songs where you hear a rythm guitar on each side of the sound stage, you'll think its the same track dubbed twice.
On good speakers, you can hear if there are tonality differences between the two. Eg. different guitars = different sound. Different guitarist = plays differently, hence it sounds different.
