so my wifes gettin' me a 5th gen ipod nano for christmas. well I been looking at the KCE-422i, which is the ipod cable to connect with the 9887 alpine HU. but when I look at places that sell the cable, they don't list the 5th gen nano's as compatable. do you guys think it will still work? or whats up with it. I'm thinking of telling her to take it back, and may have to go with an older generation Ipod. can't find nothing where it says the gen 5 nanos work with the CDA-9887

Tough question. I have this setup and I know a guy with a 5th gen ipod. I'll see if I can clear up the confusion.

yeah 1800, this question was mainly for you lol... for the record, what ipod do you use with your alpine? I'm 30 days out from going home, so i really cant test it. either way, i'm still going to need the KCE-422i cable.

I've got an alpine headunit.. it's the ida-x303 not the 9887, but I imagine they have the same compatibilites..
I can tell you my 160gb classic works fine with it, a 16gb 2gen touch works with it, a 1gen touch works with it.. Haven't used anything else.

The ipod should work just fine. Here is what I got from the alpine site

    * The unit can be used with the following iPod versions.
    Fourth generation iPod: Ver. 3.1.1
    Fifth generation iPod: Ver. 1.1.2
    iPod photo: Ver. 1.2.1
    iPod mini: Ver. 1.4.1
    iPod nano: Ver. 1.2

    * The unit cannot be used with software versions earlier than “2006- 06-28”. For details about “iPod Software Update,” refer to the iPod Instruction Manual. -->

    It should still work.
Update. Just found this info on crutchfields site.

Note: The cable will not charge the iPod nano 4thgeneration or iPod touch 2nd generation without the Scosche passPORT (142IFWA). The cable cannot be used with iPod software versions earlier than "2006-06-28". For details about "iPod Software Update", refer to the iPod's Instruction Manual.

I bought the cable off ebay, the chinese make cables in their sleep. Which makes them a good cable for a great price.

I think mines the 9883 in the gp. I just tried to see what seller I bought the cable from and it won't show up from that long ago. I see there are a lot more choices now for 99 cents, so watch it, but if its that cheap there is no harm in trying one.

My Gf's ipod that was bought last year didn't work when I plugged it into my 9886 model. Only tried it once though. My ipod is about 3-4 years old and works great with it.

so here is what i got...if ur HU accepts the KCE-422I :

    4G iPod (20 & 40GB)
    5G iPod Video (30, 60, & 80GB)
    iPod Classic (120GB)
    iPod Classic (80 &160GB)
    iPod Mini (4 & 6GB)
    iPod Nano 1st Generation (1, 2, & 4GB)
    iPod Nano 2nd Generation (4 & 8GB)
    iPod Nano 3rd Generation (4 & 8GB)
    iPod Nano 4th Generation (8 & 16GB)
    iPod Touch 1st Generation (8, 16 & 32GB)
    iPod Touch 2nd Generation (8, 16 & 32GB)

and 2nd gen Touch and 4th gen Nano's don't charge. So you will need the adaptor for it...here is link. I just bought the adaptor passPORT and the KCE-422I

Scosche passPORT - Charging Adapter for iPod touch 2G, iPod nano 4G, iPhone 3G Connection Cables for iPod/MP3 Players iPod Accessories MP3 Players & Accessories Portable Audio & Video Portable Electronics - Sonic Electronix
