hey everyone i have a 2002 grand prix gt sedan. i am putting my system in this weekend and was wondering if there is a way to get riid of the trunk rattle. my mom has the same car as me and her trunk rattles really badly with only 1 12" sub. if theres anyone who knows a successfll way then let me know pleaseee.

open the trunk pass through or remove the rear 6x9's.
That pressure needs to get out somehow.

That would not stop trunk rattle.
If you're looking to go professional, you would need to pad the trunk.

be ready to spend alot... Dynamat. Stuff works though. Also look into their license plate cover that prevents rattle as well. No one likes hearing *buzzzzz buzz buz buzzzz*.

One other thing you can do is adjust the trunk latch so that it holds the trunk more stiff. Like move the latch to where you really can hardly close the trunk

When adding MLV(mass loaded vinyl) the idea is that you're adding physical mass to vibrating panels in order to change their characteristics. Adding this mass doesn't stop the vibration, it just changes the frequency it will vibrate.
It doesn't have to be as expensive as others presume because they use a COVER EVERYTHING MENTALITY!!! Which is ridiculous. Don't confuse dampening with absorption or the attempt to block sound waves.
Foam typically only dissipates sound above 8khz. Majority of the song information is between 100hz and 5000hz. Do you need the toher frequencies? OF COURSE!!, for roll off etc.
Anyways, to get rid of rattle only cover 25% of the problem area to kill 90% of the rattle at the associated frequency. If you're trying to sound DEADEN/block sound, then you need to overlap MLV panels by a quarter inch when applied and create a wall of it. Then you dampen the sound with very thick and heavy foam. I believe closed cell is better in this application vs. open cell. When dealing with reflections...you want open cell.
So there ya go...JUST COVER 25% of the problem area. You'll be good to go.

Fvck guys, did anyone go out and look to see where the rattle was coming from? on mine it comes from the top lip, push that down, it stops.
SO, you can either avoid pressure build up or add weather stripping so that part doesn't move.
There isn't any science behind stopping a unique rattle. Find what is making the noise, and prevent it from doing that with the least amount of sh*t possible.

my spoiler actually doesn't rattle at all, I took it off to add washers and clean up under there. No rattle.
Just the lip right by the bottom of the rear window.

my tail lights rattle like no other they literally move inside

That'd work if your rear trunk lip was the part that rattles. On my car, the front lip is the one that rattles, but only with bass heavy music like electro or DnB at full tilt.

why just don't you face the subs to the front of the car you will gain more db and less rattle

If they're sealed you get the most SPL out of facing them backwards and at the rear lip of the trunk.
This means having no trunk and putting weight behind your rear axle which can't help handling.
See why subs in the trunk isn't practical?
