Thread: sub

ok so i have a sub that is for my HOME THEATER. it has a built in amp and all that is needed to make it self sufficient. i was wandering if i could just get one of those adpters that plugs in to ciglighter and plug the normal home plug in that and then just un plug one speaker or bridge it from one and play it that way? would this work? would i hurt some thing?

so i tried it today by just unplugging one of the rear speakers. and plugged the sub its self into a wall out let because i dont have an AC/DC converter yet. but i just wanted to know if running that with the converter would drain my batterie? or hurt some thing

That outlet is probably fused for something small such as 5 amps which means if you try to turn up that sub much you'll blow the accessory outlet fuse. You're going to lose power due to inefficiencies in converting the power more times than necessary so it might be worth it to invest in a real car audio amp.

yeah you are gonna run out of power on the inverter , they are designed to run like a laptop or a drill charger , things like that , home sub amps pull a few amps and the inverter unless you get a huge nasty one like 1500 watts you would be able to buy a cheap 2 CHANNEL amp , key thing is home subs are 8 ohm car subs are mostly 4 ohm impedence , you could make it work if you had 2 channel amp probably 600 - 800 watts would work
