Stereo whinning sound

Hey,
My stereo was making a whinning sound from one of the speakers and every time I reved the engine the whinning sound would increase. I figured it was because the stereo was installed incorrectly by the previous owner and the wiring was bad so I took the car in and had the system reinstalled with new wiring. The system sounded awesome for about a month after but I just noticed recently that the whinning is back. I have a warranty on the installation so I am going to take it back and have them look at it but I was wondering if it is a connection issue behind the HU. The installer said that the previous installer had run the ground and speaker cables down the same side of the car causing the crossfeed and that the issue was fixed. Obviously the cables cant jump from one side of the car to the other so the only thing I can think of is a bad connection somewhere.

Also you will want to check the other grounds if they had installed aftermarket amplifiers and stuff. You can actually have your RCA and speaker cables cross over your power line without issue. I have seen a number of installs where this happens. As long as your ground on you HU and Amps is sufficent* you should not have a problem with the whine.

The link I posted is not just for Pioneer HUs it can be applied to any aftermarket HU.

Also please be a bit more specific about your HU and setup, ie the brand of HU also if any AMPs are installed, aftermarket speakers etc. Those things are always helpful.

Geddy's resolution isn't the end all. Sorry...not trying to bust your balls :/

You aren't grounded properly somewhere and it's backfeeding into your system some how. If you have a Pioneer made in the last few years you POSSIBLY have an issue with a blown pico fuse inside the head unit. Geddy's thread will resolve that situation. Their internal fuse is very fragile. Plugging/Unplugging RCA's while the system is on will be enough to blow the fuse and cause an awful ground noise.

Geddy's fix will also help if you're creating a ground loop between your amps and the head unit.

Step 1) Use an Ipod w/RCA's to see if the ground noise disappears once you've disconnected the head unit.

If anwer is yes: You're H/U is picking up the ground noise. You can either run a wire to ground the H/U in the same location as your amps or try other techniques that you can research.

If answer is no: Your amplifiers aren't grounded properly. Did you ground them to your seat bolts? Apparently I've read that these can be zinc plated or something rather. Find a new location and use a nut/bolt combination that doesn't contain zinc. Otherwise, you're not grounded properly.

This is just a start and there's a million different issues that it could be...sorry :/ Chime in with updates from your trials.
