I've got a 2000 Grand Prix SE with electric locks but no keyless entry. I bought an Astra 50 keyless entry system and am wondering if anyone here has installed one and my have some advice to share before I take a crack at it.

I plan on only using it to lock and unlock the doors and to pop the trunk.
The starter disconnect and other features like flashing lights or honking the horn are not important to me. I just want to be able to do the basics!

    I installed it.
I only hooked up the parking light flashes, lock and unlock and was going to hook up the trunk release. That was the only problem I had. I couldn't get the trunk release to work. I checked everything and I believe the relay was wired correctly but no luck. I finally said screw it and figured I could live without it!

If you hooked up a Astra 50 and got the trunk to work I'll give it another try and report back with details.

I have been doing mobile electronics installations for better than 18 years. I can not say specifically that I have installed that particular model but if you follow these instructions it will work. I have installed many Scytek remote start/keyless entry pieces and although they are inexpensive I can say they work very well for many years if installed properly.

To wire up your trunk release, get a relay and wire it like this:

Pin 85: Gray Aux Output 1 from Astra 50
Pins 86 and 30: Constant +12V fused input
Pin 87: Output to trunk release wire in car (black/white wire at trunk release switch)

To activate the output you need to hold down the trunk release button on the remote for more than 2 seconds. It is purposely delayed to prevent accidental opening of the trunk.

If your car came with keyless entry from the factory, which I am assuming yours did not, you could hook the gray from the A50 directly to the brown at the trunk release relay to the left of the steering column.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Tweloltz!

I was using this website for a guide when I started:
Technical Wiring Diagrams: Trunk Release Wiring Diagram for Car Alarm Install

I tried it your way and it still didn't work so I got a different relay and tried it your way again and now the trunk release works great!!

I think I tried this one too:
    http://alarmtek.tripod.com/trunk.gif

Is there more than one way to hook these up? Every website is different.
The way you told me works so I'm going to leave well enough alone but its just weird that three different people have three different ways!

I see on peoples info off to the right of the posts has times thanked. How do you thank someone?

Glad to hear you have it working.

For the record...just think of a relay as a "switch" that turns on and off with voltage. The relay will allow you to activate a high current device using a very low current output. In this case your alarm system uses a transistorized output (probably about .3amp) to activate trunk release. Your vehicle's trunk release motor requires somewhere around 10amps to activate. Pins 85 and 86 activate the relay (does not matter which gets ground and which gets positive). Pin 30 is connected to 87a when there is no power to 85 and 86. Pins 30 and 87 are connected when there is power to 85 and 86. So...with your configuration, the relay always has +12V on 30 and 86, then when you press the button for trunk release the keyless system sends a low current negative to pin 85, turning on the relay and connecting pin 30 to 87.
