Something to do with the reduced resistance of the leds, it does the same thing for me, dim when turned on and the key is off, but they work fine when doors open, vehicle is on, or dimmer switch is turned on.

I did this mod a few weeks ago, everything worked fine for awhile. For the last few days, when the doors are open the lights don't come on and when the dimmer switch is turned on they don't come on either (the lights in the door flicker for a sec but that's it). The odd thing is the map lights that I can manually turn on work just fine as do the vanity mirror lights. Anyone know why they stopped working when the doors are open and for the dimmer switch? Also they used to work when I would hit the unlock button on the remote but they don't work that way anymore either.
I have a 98 Grand Prix if that matters.
Thanks!
that's so sick! i would love to have that in my GP. mine is a 02, and if i ordered them, are they easy to install? and would he send me all the lights i would need to make it like the pics with the amber LEDS? DM a price too!
theres kits of our cars that comes with mostly all the ones you'll need, theres others you can get but doesnt come in a kit
Does anyone have a link to where I can order the entire kit for my 97-03 Grand Prix? Would love to switch to LED.
Here is our link: 1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix LED Kit
Let me know if you have any questions!
Please send me a message too! I would love to buy these lights.
Just put your make/model/year into our search (on the left) and it will give you the kit we have for you, keep in the mind they come in three different brightness levels. Diode Dynamics
It you don't find your kit be sure to email us at contact@diodedynamics.com
Due to the lower resistance of LEDs, when they are installed in a dimmer switch setup, they may light up dimly due to the small amount of power that is still in the dimmer circuit. This is normal, and will not adversely affect your vehicle in any way
I put some LED bulbs above the passenger door and when they turn off automatically, and you go to turn them back on they just have a faint flicker. How would i fix this?
Also, Does anyone know how i could wire up a LED in my trunk. My OE light and fixture thing are gone (the guy doing my sound system lost them). And i cant find the ends of the original cable, but maybe i could splice into the cables coming from the latch switch? Please advise.
Here is what the door bulbs are doing: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/59203202/201...2021.00.23.mov , As for the trunk i think i would be better off just to tap into the cords coming from the latch and run new wires to a LED bulb.
I brought out the DMM for the heck of it, all of the standard bulbs, like the ones used for the floor, dome, trunk, etc, measure 3 ohms, and the vanity mirror lights measure 12 ohms. I'm going to wire up a resistor in line this weekend to see if that fixes them not coming on without the key in at least ACC. I remember them working fine when at least one other "standard" bulb was still wired in. If the resistance prevents them from lighting (which I wouldn't doubt), then I'll try to think up a circuit.
the kit for the 97-03 grand prix are all the bulbs plug n play?
i don't think i've read so much at once in my entire life, not even a text book. 14 pages and finally at the end.
i'm guessing with most newer GP the lights fade off after your start your car. is this what the dimmer problem people are saying they have is that they don't completely turn off after you start your car or turn it off? i have an 07 GXP, will this be a problem if i replace the factory lights with LEDs?
