Hey everyone. I recently got a 98 Grand Prix GT and am in the market for an iPod adapter for it, since I store my music on my iPod Touch (first gen.) My friend got an iPod adapter for his Camaro, but there's a problem. His adapter requires some sort of aux switch on the stereo, which mine does not have. I'm guessing it's because he has a newer car, so GM provided more.

My car has the stock stereo with eight speakers. I don't want to replace the stereo, since all of the third party ones aren't as good (to me at least) than my stock stereo. None of them are visually attractive with the car, or provide a manual equalizer. Here is a picture of my stereo for better reference.

    Thanks,
    Salt

I have an Alpine ida-x200 and my ipod hooks right up to it and I can control my ipod from my deck. They are not that expensive and it looks way better than the gm deck with the 5 band eq.

Since I have the Touch, I would like to control my iPod from the iPod itself. I tried it in my friend's car, and it is easier to control. I have two issues with that deck, sadly. The first one is the color scheme. My car doesn't have a single blue in it, and that deck is full of blue. Also, it looks as if it isn't tall enough to fully fit my dash, which would leave an ugly hole in middle of my dash.

    what i have
Alpine IDA-X001 Digital media receiver at Crutchfield.com

Its the step above for what Rottman posted. Changes between Red and Blue. All in all a awesome Ipod reciever.

And also they make things called dash kits that fill that hole in the dash

Interesting. Too bad it says it's discontinued though. Looks like a nice stereo. Also, if I happened to find it somewhere, does it support the steering wheel controls?

Some places have it yet. Its just the previous version. The new one is called the IDA-X305. And you will need a PAC-SWI to retain steering controls.

SO have you made up your mind yet...i too am in the same dilema as I love my steering wheel controls and want an ipod adapter for my GP.

Let me know how it works out?

I am also wondering if a aftermarket HU will effect any of my stock stereos?
