So in the past year or so, the security light on my instrument cluster comes on flashing whenever I start the car and remains flashing for as long as the car is running. There is no effect, as of now, on the car running - it starts immediately and works perfectly fine. They key itself is a PS3 key I bought from the dealer about six years ago so it's not that old, and I can run the "key relearn" procedure all the livelong day, it doesn't keep the security light from just coming on again next time I start the car.

I suspect the Passkey module itself might being going bad - there doesn't seem to be any of the other issues with the car that would be happening with, say, a failing body module or something like that. And while whatever issue is turning the security light on right now isn't stopping the car from running, it may only be a matter of time until it decides to start doing that.

As a bonus, I am going to have to replace the ignition cylinder anyway; the plastic grip-bezel-deal on the outside that you use to actually turn the cylinder once the key is inserted, broke off a couple of weeks ago, meaning I'm now having to turn the key itself to crank the starter, which of course isn't great. And some of what I've read suggests to me that the Passkey module needs to be reprogrammed to recognize the new ignition cylinder when it's installed. If this module is going bad, once I install the new key cylinder that might be the moment it decides to completely stop letting the car run.

So my question is - is there a way to completely just disable or remove the Passkey system so I don't have to put up with the light anymore OR the fear that my engine might just decide not to start any day now? And I can install the new ignition cylinder without causing any trouble? The door locks and alarm work just fine (they're apparently not part of the Passkey system?) and my car is kind of old, I'm not really worried too much about it being targeted by thieves.
