I got a "refurbished" DIC off eBay. When I plugged it in, the fuel range and average MPG read zero. Everything else was fine. When I got it up on the highway tonight, it worked a little--showed range of 3 miles and .7 MPG.

Then, when I filled the gas tank, it instantly started working completely correctly. (I'm 99% sure the sender is working, because the instant MPG always worked.) What caused this, and is it likely to happen again when the fuel level drops?

well it makes sense that when you installed it, it had zero data to perform its calculations. then when you refilled, it read full voltage from the sender and knew the sender was "home"

The car wasn't empty when I installed it. Why didn't it read the fuel that was there and start calculating when I was driving?

Was it just reading 0 or was it flashing 0? Did your GP originally come with a DIC or did you have to wire it in? It is possible you may have just needed to reset it after it was installed. I am assuming at this point two months later you haven't had anymore issues

It's a GXP, it came with the 5 button. For some reason, the previous owner had put one in with the guts of a 3 button, hence the replacement. It didn't flash 0, it just read it steadily.

I am wondering if the 7th gen dic's have some sort of electronic memory in them which would explain why you were stuck on 0 for awhile or maybe it just took that long to calibrate itself
