It's not actually growing, but it no longer fits where it belongs.

The DIC wouldn't stay in place after my accident. I looked inside the fascia, and thought it was because two tabs were snapped off. I ordered another. I attempted to put it inside the new one, but it doesn't fit. the presence of the tabs keeps the display from snapping into place. (It would go into place on the other fascia, it just fell afterward.) In addition, there's now a two inch gap between the fascia and the rest of the dashboard.

I'm starting to think the previous owner deliberately snapped off the tabs to make it fit. There are four screws at the bottom which will hold it in place. If I don't get an answer from someone, I think I'm going to break things myself.

I can provide pictures if needed.

maybe after your accident the unibody is messed up and things aren't fitting right.

Please don't take this as disrespectful or whatever else you guys call me, but how does unibody damage (which was limited to the radiator support anyway) affect the interaction of interior plastic trim pieces? Just trying to understand....

none taken, but quite frankly when I hear that dash pieces don't line up and there's a 2 inch gap, I'm thinking that something is whacked. If you have pictures put them up.

Figured it out. The DIC had two copper things still attached to it that came out of the broken tabs on the original fascia. The newer fascia also had them. Remove one set, screw the screws that were attaching them to the DIC into the other set, and voila!

What I still haven't figured out is, what the purpose of using copper in a place where no electricity flows is, or what the purpose of using TWO DIFFERENT SIZE Torx screws was.
